you need x-rays to check the bone density and look for breaks and/or deformities to rule out mbd. it may be early on in the disease so just feeling the bones for sturdiness won't cut it.
there are also chams that have weird metabolisms just like people are different. if that is diego's problem, nutrition is very important. look up sandrachameleon's blogs and info on nutrition for both the cham and it's feeders. try giving him bites of safe fruits and veggies instead of just bugs. that made a HUGE difference for my little guy.
natural sunlight is the best thing to do also. bad time of year since it is cold but you can build a perch in a sunny window and put him there for as long as possible. glass blocks some uvb but my little sickie liked being in the sun anyway. i set up a plastic mesh board covered with a cotton towel with a few branches and leaves so i could move him to the sunniest windows. i put the board on a cookie sheet to catch water from dripper bottle hanging from the curtain and put his uvb and heat emitter hanging off the window shade so he didn't get chilly. gotta keep close eye on temps tho cuz the sunshine gets pretty warm.
water is important but even more when they are sick. i noticed bad water spots in one of your pics. what kind of water are you giving and spraying with? you should use filtered water or bottled water. the chlorine and other stuff like flouride in some of our drinking water systems is not good for them. reverse osmosis treated water is great and some of our grocery stores have dispensing machines with r.o. treated water. it is cheaper that way. if using bottled water, read the label because it may not be filtered or treated. i made that mistake too.
other stuff you don' think about that can make them very sick anywhere around them are smoking (tobacco or especially pot is very poisonous), aerosol sprays, cleaners, incense and/or perfumes and colognes. they have a very good sense of smell and breathe slowly so if they breathe something in it is more easily absorbed into their system.
if the vet says not mbd then why the increased d3 and how often? too much d3 and other vitamins can be just as dangerous as not enough. if a question of mbd increase the plain calcium by giving liquid as well as lightly dusting bugs daily. my sickie got increased d3 also but only once a week for the first month then every ten days for a month.
and you might try getting a new uvb bulb unless you have a meter that can tell you it is working right. some bulbs, even brand new, may not be putting out the right amount of uvb. and, from some of diego's behavior, he acts like he wants more uvb. and, the linear bulbs (long and skinny) put out the uvb in a wider area than the cfl bulbs. either way, he should be able to bask closer than 6 inches from the bulb for max absorbtion.
i'm keeping my fingers crossed that you and diego figure this out and have a long relationship.
