I dea for a cool self humidifying cage.

I had this crazy Idea the other day for a cage that would self humidify itself (steam counts as humidity right?)

anyways
it would go something like this.

Your normal cage ontop then underneath instead of a flooring that will be another screen with an area for your plant to set on.
underneath this Screening would be a hotpad or something that can get hot enough to make the water turn to steam but not hot enough to make it too dry in the cage.
then the cage it hoisted above this hotpad thus whenever there is any water that falls it doesn't sit on the bottom of the cage it turns into steam thus hydrating your Scaly friend.

The reason most humidifiers are ultrasonic and don't use heat is because steam is extremely hot.

Basically, the bottom of the cage needs to be the coolest place so your cham has temperature gradients. You would be cooking your chameleon.

You will have an anomaly in temp gradient.
He will be bombarded with heat from the top (basking light) and bottom (steamer). A recipe for disaster, imo.

I think a lot of us overestimate the humidity problem.
Daily Misting is more than enough.

Even during severe winter, an ultrasonic humidifier in a closed room can fix the problem.

WHOA! Like how you cook carrots or something? Thats a lot of heat... I agree that misting will make it humid enough if you mist right. I mist 4-5 times a day and my cage stays at 70 to 75% for a half an hour and than above 60% for an hour or more. After that it is at 50% the rest of the time.

Ive taken to creating humidity too. Airconditioners and fans dry the air.
Im currently using a tray/tub of water beneath (not in) Homers enclosure with a small aquaruim submersable filter to keep the water moving, switched on/off by a timer.
It's boosted the background humidity to 65% and working brilliantly. Ive noticed an improvement in Homers shedding too.
Note: this will NOT be used in the cooler months.

this seems like a good idea. could say and air pump with an air stone be used in place of the filter? I have a fish tank heater for 5 gallons it is currently heating Kratos' dripper

Yeah that will work just as well. Moving water evaporates. Be sure whatever you use the waterheater for, that it remains submerged (if fully submersible) at all times.
If the pump will be lower than the water, it may well be worth buying a backflow check valve from the petstore to prevent water running back into the pump through the line in the event of power failure. Always play it safe.

What happens if chameleon poop lands in there? Dead food? Not sure when dissolved into steam if it is healthy for the environment. Picture yourself sitting in a steam room and you pour that stuff on the rocks/heating element.

Sounds like a giant fail. Go to target and buy a cool mist humidifier. You can get a penguin, elephant or a frog. I personally went with the penguin because penguins are cool as s#!t.
