I blew it!

Almost.....My female Nosy finally decided to start digging 25 days after being with my male. She started this morning so I decide to check discreetly after lunch. All I saw was a curled tail coming out of the sand with no hole. I freaked out! Opened the cage and started digging for her (thinking her hole caved in on her). Quickly, my finger popped through the sand and into her hole. I hear her hiss and quickly stopped and closed the cage. I just went and checked and she is still digging in the same hole so I think all is well. I sure learned my lesson though. Patience is a virtue:)

Hey, lucky escape......:) I'm going to try breeding for the first time when my 5 1/2 month old female Veiled is ready, so I'm always interested in following these stories......Have you bred them a lot before?

Just leave her alone!! I can't stress that enough to anyone new to having a chameleon that is laying eggs! Don't check up on her much, and don't go running through her cage like a madman! It will cause her to stop digging, you are lucky that she is even digging after you jumped in there like that. I know this sounds harsh, but it is reality. When you see her up in the branches, she should be done.

Its a good point. And i agree. But everyone will agree its just hard. One of the only negative things about this forum is you read and here some bad things. Some very unfortunate accidents that people go through that are actually very rare but it makes the rest of us scared. My one female is getting close to time to lay. I do my best to leave her but as an owner and someone who loves and cares for her you get worried something bad will happen. Did that make any sense?

I left that out! D: I got all happy after I seen that there was another South Dakotan here. I got caught up in the moment.:rolleyes:

This is hardly my first time! I've been doing this for 15 years! I've never had a female look barried alive before. This is her first clutch and I was worried.
She is done now! And just ate a silkie. So all is well:) Lesson learned!

I take it back!! ;) I read it completely wrong, I didn't read where she got stuck!

Did make sense, but there are actually no negative things about the forum - only that people (esp. the more foolish ones) might take it the wrong way......:)

So, not only lesson learned but lesson shared. Maybe the incident will help me or some lurker in the future. The wise way to use chameleonforums.com........

Yes, hopefully other people can learn from my mistake:)
She laid 19 beautifully white eggs. Can't wait to see what these guys turn out like!

Congrats on your eggs and glad that all turned out well. I am always terrified when one of the girls here are in the hole. I am so afraid it could collapse on them even though I've dug a test hole and it held find. They are down in there digging and moving around and it's so scary. Again I'm glad it all worked out with your girl and the eggs.
