I am upset.

When I went to buy crickets from the locally owned pet shop I witnessed the most disturbing thing. As I walk in I try to get help asap so I dont have to look at the poor conditions these precious creatures live in, only to find something that perturbed me the most. Sorry the picture is small I only had my iphone.Just save the picture to your computer (its tiny)so you can see if you like its not a virus

The coil reptiglo 10.0 is in fact inside the shitty glass exo terra 12x12x24 or whatever the deminsions also that moist looking peat moss or crap for substrate a air line running into a small water bowl? maybe so she sees the water bubbling durrr -_- She is on the right with the eye closest to the light closed i wonder why? she looks only weeks or a month old and priced at 92$ and after tax probably 100 range.

After purchasing my crix I calmly told the owner that I would not be returning for future purchases as being a customer for nearly 6 years now they know me. She said awww are you moving? No Just cant stand to see creatures suffer and pay the mile high prices and straight faced walked out. All of their animals/fish/reptiles/birds live in filth you see anoles uromastyx and juvi iguanas drying up and dying every day im done with it.

Good for you. First thing I do before I walk in a shop is check on the conditions of the animal. I'm not the one to go on a tirade, but if the owners really don't seem to give a flying frisbee, I take my business elsewhere. Luckily out here, there are many options.

Did you actually try to inform the staff first? Sometimes they just don't know, and will turn things around with 1 or 2 complaints.

The sad thing is they know. Owned by a middle aged couple and this is a small college town one pet store no petcos petsmarts or etc... thats 45 miles away. They overcharge, LLL has all their prices by half, im not exageratting
that.

Numerous times i have pointed out hey this anole is not moving hes dark brown and dead they would remove them but sometimes getting replies to the extent of "oh hes probably sleeping" either really naive or just dont care. it really dinks me off!

i have to say they are sleeping at work, because i cant be like oh i died. most of the time its not even my fault they die, and it happens from the breeder, but anoles are a dime a dozen, and for my concerns are feeders. They actually holdable reptiles, or better pet geckos IE leopard, and gargoyle. deserve much more attentions and i do such. i do what i can to keep everything alive, and normally dont have things die, but a mountain horned lizard died today. he was sick from the start, and i dunno what was wrong with him. he just would sleep all the time, and there isnt a Reptile vet around here so we dont take them. we do as much research as we can. not all corporation stores are bad, but after i leave i know it will go to hell (pardon the language)

Jeeez, that PICTURE of the light bulb hurts my eyes...just imagine what it would be like having it inches from your face!!!

i had the same thing in my local store, so much so that i have just informed the RSPCA.not to get them in trouble but even if they misguidedly are doing things wrong.they can have matters put right.in my opinion, if they have the animals for sale research should have been upmost BEFORE they started selling after all,we as owners mostly do our research first!

Sounds alot like hell to me already! Are these all WC? Do you have any real idea where they come from, or what they go through before they reach you?

Sleeping my ***! Watch out Monty Python!
What do you say if somebody wants to inspect them?

So what you're saying is that green or brown anoles deserve less attention and, for all you care, you consider them to be nothing more than feeders because they are cheap? So let me ask you this, do you think that a $5 lizard suffers less than a $300 one? Clearly, the issue is much more complex than that and one could argue that varanids suffer more because they are more intelligent than other lizards, but by that logic, I wonder whether you'd think the same way if your boss brought in a bunch of Allison's anoles, which look practically identical to green anoles but cost $150 a piece.

Anoles and house geckos are some of the most important organisms within an ecosystem, maybe even more important to the overall equilibrium of that ecosystem than say, a highly specialized one, so it's always amusing to see people in the United States degrading their "value" while people in Europe are paying high rates (relatively speaking) for these "feeder" green anoles because they don't have them there. But I guess the same applies with European lacertas-- they're "a dime a dozen" there but we pay upwards of $400 here for certain species. I can see the day the green anole populations are depleted and prices quadruple, or more, like it happened with Corucia a few years back.

So they just just expendable? nothing you could care about like the dirt we walk on...I see what you did there.

What makes gargoyles and leos deserve more attention that an anole? Make no mistake, I would not buy an anole myself, and gargolyes are near the top of my list for favourite herps (well, geckos at least.) It is still a living thing and just because you deem it worthless, doens't mean that somebody won't come in one day and give it a loving home. In my opinion, all animals, FEEDERS INCLUDED should be treated with respect. Treat your feeders like s**t and you are giving your reptiles s****y food.
