i am contemplating buying a chameleon...any suggestions?

There are lots of different chameleons. For starters, I'd recommend scrolling up to the top of this very forum and read over the "General Care of True Chameleons" and maybe take a glance at the "Basic Husbandry" thread that's also there.

The one thing I will say it chameleons are not to be taken on lightly as a "pet". They require a considerable investment of time, energy and money.

But they sure are fun, i was surprised to find my wife more than willing to help feed and take care of them. Never picked her for a lizard lover, but she will hold a cricket in her hands, amazing what she is willing to do for these "kids". Most of my friends that see mine are always impressed and want some of there own, but I tell them what I have to do to take care of them and they shy away real quick.

Best advice is to read lots of caresheets, get a couple books, and look through the care of all the species that catch you eye. THEN, being honest with yourself, ask yourself if you can provide all the things that species needs. If yes, then continue researching, if no, then look for another one. And then, if you think you've found the match for you, come here and ask specific questions you may have.

They are tricky at first but they are great animals to have in the house. But it does take lots of research and devotion to keep them healthy and happy.

welcome!!!!

my advice is to read , read and read some more!!
then come here and ask question after question after question!!!!

trust me, "they" love helping someone that wants to learn and do it right!!!! i'm still reading and learning myself.. with that and the advice i've gotten on this forum, i feel that i won't have a problem keeping and raising a healthy chameleon!!! :)

good luck lisa
