Does anybody know how serious this is my cam did this about 2 weeks ago and it took him 2 days to get his tounge back into his mouth and now anytime I get him to gape all you see is a straight bone???? Any feed back would be great....

Type of Cham: 11mo nosey be
Cage type 12x12x18 screen mostly
Has a 24x24x48 screen sunning cage
Repti-sun 5.0. 18" light
1 100w heat light
Only hibiscus in his cage
Diet mostly crickets once a month silkworms

was the tongue damaged? If you see the bone the tongue may have been punctured.

Does he attempt to shoot at all? has he been eating?

We had a wild caught carpet that tore her tongue and all there was was the hyphoid bone. She was still able to eat by walking up to her food

Perhaps he bit the tongue off or ended up swallowing it? You shouldn't be able to see the hyoid bone, so I think the tongue may have been lost. Is there any way you can take a pic when he's gaping at you?

I will try to get a pic I have not attempted to feed him but I'm giving him extra water but the looks of it it does look like he swallowed the remainder of what was hanging out

it does sound like the tounge is gone iff you are seeing the bone, i have a cham with no tounge and thats what i see.
i would suggest a vet visit, if it is gone you will most likley need some antibiotics and will have to help him learn to eat with out it.
best of luck

I sure hope he gets better. After he is stable, I would consider a larger cage. 12 x12x18 is really small for a panther that size. jmo

He could very well have swallowed his tongue. If it was ripped/bitten/etc. off the bone, it might be a good idea to give him a course of antibiotics to prevent infection.

Yeah he's only been in the small cage since his injury but a have scheduled a vet visit to see what we can do...
