Hydration and tounge emergency help

Howdy,

Clarkrw3 stopped by today and dropped-off a really nice digital temp/humidity meter for me to bring over to Chameleoman tomorrow afternoon. I'll bring along some other supplies too :).

Howdy All,

I just had a nice 1 1/2hr visit with Joseph and his family. His Veiled chameleon looks to be in pretty good shape. He's got a nice enclosure with good placement of his Reptisun 5.0 linear UVB tube. We changed out the 100W Zoomed Spot light with a 60W Philips Halogen FLOOD to more evenly spread the heat in the basking zone. We experimented with using his pump-up misting bottle using water hot enough to produce a nice warm misty/rainy effect. He seems to tolerate warm misting much better than room temp water .

Although his bones don't appear to have any issues, he will begin two weeks of liquid calcium glubionate (Calcionate syrup) treatment dosed at one drop per day on a feeder followed by a few crickets lightly dusted with Ca/D3. This is being done to see if it has any effect on the Veiled's "leg-grabbing" symptom that is often a precursor to full-on MBD. He'll also be getting a very tiny amount of vitamin A once a week. We're making an assumption for the moment that this Veiled is short on calcium in his bloodstream. Joseph will be carefully monitoring for any changes in the Veiled's condition and let us now so that we can makes changes to the plan.

I left him with some hornworms and a starter colony of Dubias :).

I brought home a fecal sample to run a smear and float for parasites just to get a baseline test. I'm not expecting to find anything.

Thanks again to Clarkrw3 for the nice digital temp/humidity meter that he brought all the way from Arizona for me to give to Joseph. That'll be real handy to track his environmental conditions.

Thank you so much for taking time to meet with me to discuss the SBCK and show me your hobbies. Thanks also for taking your time to go above and beyond to help this cham and young chameleon keeper out with supplies and even more important knowledge. It is truly great to be a part of a community that is so very helpful to those in need.

Big thumbs up to Dave and Clarkrw3

This forum should have annual awards for posters who go beyond the normal confines of answering questions and provide real life assistance to those in need. Both of you would be up for that award this year, though I think Dave might have an edge...

I'm glad to read that the chameleon is in a good situation and that steps have been taken to make it even better.
