Cage Info:

* Cage Type - All screen, 15x16x19 inches. Pics included in the link.
* Lighting - Exo Terra, UVB bulb, not sure on the power.
* Temperature - Basking spot is about 81F, floor is ~73F, and it never gets much colder in here, even at night (mid California). We use a thermometer probe from the pet store to measure regularly.
* Humidity - Wife's picking up humidity meter today, but not sure of exact level. Trying to keep at least 2 consistent thorough mistings of the cage each day.
* Plants - Yes, again, not sure, I'll have my wife amend this when she gets back. She made sure they're all appropriate for the habitat though.
* Placement - Cage is on a table about two feet from a covered window. Top of cage is about 4 feet off the ground, and not in a particularly high traffic area. The only people here are my wife and I, and we don't create a lot of traffic around his cage.
* Location - Santa Barbara, CA.

Chameleon Info:

* My Chameleon - Weider (sub species peacock) chameleon, male, not sure of the age. We've had him for two days.
* Handling - Not much more than a few minutes (under 10 total) per day.
* Feeding - Again, only had him for two days, but have offered him meal worms and crickets, but we haven't seen him eat much of anything.
* Supplements - Reptocal calcium+vitamin D, we've attempted to feed him several times but he doesn't seem interested.
* Watering - He has a commercial dripper, and we've misted his whole cage, particularly the screen top and walls so droplets would collect, and his foliage.
* Fecal Description - Haven't seen him poo yet.
* History - Got him from the pet store where my wife works, and they were going to get rid of him (not sure if they meant to a vet, or euthanize, or what). So, my wife offered to take him home, and nurse him back to health.
* Current Problem - While in the care of the store, he bit his tongue not too long ago (within a week or so) and developed a nasty looking wound on it.
He can't fully close his mouth now and the wound is a blackish-purple color. Due to this wound, possibly stress of a new home and environment, I haven't seen him eat anything in two days, and haven't seen him drinking water for the last day (my wife has this morning, but I can't seem to interest him in any more).
He's looking fairly dehydrated (eyes more sunken than yesterday, very sluggish) and since we brought him home he's spent nearly all day hanging out/sleeping near his lamp. I moved the lamp a bit further away because I didn't want him getting burnt from over exposure. He also hasn't quite ditched all his dried skin from his last shed.

Main concerns: Lack of interest in food and water, lethargy, wounded mouth. The vet said to just leave it alone, basically, but is there anything we can do to help? Can't imagine he'll last long if he's not eating or drinking.

I'll ask my wife to correct anything I said wrong, or update, when she gets home (she knows more than I do), but for now, I just want to get some info out there. I'm really concerned for him.

I am sorry but i think it's time to get a second opinion.
I don't think he/she knew much about chameleon.
Otherwise the vet won't recommend you to not do anything.
IMHO, that kind of condition will not miraculously heal by itself.

I suggest fixing your husbandry soon.
I believe our member: chamelisa is familiar with this type of chameleon. This species is definitely harder to keep in captivity than the usual veiled or panther.

Here is a recommended link for exotic vets around California area:

Add humidity. Maybe cover 2 - 3 sides to keep humid. A night time drop would do some good to. Maybe only run basking spot 4 hours max. He/she's slowly drying out, under the bulb. I'd say add more plants, but if eyes are closed, it would'nt really make him/her feel more secure, only maybe to raise humidity with taller plant.

I would get a second opinion too. This chameleon is in trouble.

If the tongue was bitten hard enough to break the skin, then it could have allowed bacteria into its system.

Although it shouldn't hurt that it didn't eat for a couple of days, it does need to eat...and drink.

IMHO, he won't last long without some serious help. The vet should be able to give him injections to build up the fluids and tube feed it if necessary. If there's a possible infection, then it needs an antibiotic too.

Good luck!

How much do they typically drink in a day? My wife gave him a lot of water that he graciously excepted this morning, but I didn't entice another drink out of him all day.

my guy will drink till he is full, from the pump mister i have, do a small kinda bubbling drip, and he graciously will sit there for 1-2 mins sometimes just drinking, depends on how dry the day is.,
