Humidity/Water Questions!?

Hello there,

My baby male WC Ambanja/ WC RB Ambilobe cross is coming in a couple weeks and just getting myself prepared for him to very very safe and comfortable.

I have a drip feeder system going now, It drips one drop about every 5-10 seconds. Its just a large water bottle with pin holes. It runs for 18 hours on a single fill and has near constant flow. (slightly heavier when full, slightly slower when empty. But always between a drop every 5-10 secs.)

So that's working well. I also have a room humidifier of good quality that I keep very clean (wash two times a week.)

But i'm still worried that the humidity will be too low. Winnipeg Winter is known for sucking the moisture out of everything. Overnight im sure the humidity drops substantially.

Im thinking about getting a mistking. But the way its looks they run it uses too much water, and Unless I can find a timer that can run short (2-3 min) burts of mist I think It may be too much? Maybe im overthinking it. I just don't want to flood the cage (for now will be smaller 16x20x24) and water all over the floor.

The timers I have seen stay on for 30 mins minimum. That just seems like too much. OR no?

Too much is better than not enough I suppose?

I will mist him in the morning and as much I think necessary after work/school.
But what about the times during the day when were away?
Does humidity need to stay constantly high? OR can it fluctuate?

I want the best for my Cham but don't want to overkill the water situation with a mister going a few times a day for a HALF-HOUR straight?

Even if I could manually mist him several times a day I wouldn't just pull the trigger straight for a half-hour...

Or would I? Because they are used to extended periods of rain in the wild- I don't know.

Over-thinking it?

A MistKing is a great investment.. It comes with a digital timer that you can program to the second, 30 minutes is a lot of water for an enclosure, right now I set it for 45-60 seconds 5 times a day and have to dry out the bottom of the enclosure every other day since its a zoomed glass enclosure. The new enclosure I'm building has a drainage system so I can spray all I want, hoping to have it completed in two weeks.. I have a little humidifier in the enclosure as well since here in PEI the winters can get very dry as well and couldn't keep the humidity up. Live plants help a lot with keeping humidity up

I didnt realize mistking had a built in timer. Doesnt say that on their website. Maybe im looking at the wrong model. The more expensive ones have timers, cheap ones dont?

What make/model do you reccomend?

So yeah, lets turn this into a MISTING SYSYTEM REVIEW THREAD.

What systems do you have? How much are they? How are they programmed? What can they be programmed to do? What is the mist formation like? Cleaning? Maintenence? Any problems?

Thank you!!

An ultrasonic room humidifier can help bridge the gap between misting cycles and stabilize your humidity more without flooding your cage. They are not very expensive...check home improvement stores (especially as low humidity is a problem in your winters you should be able to find one) or larger pharmacies. Cycle it on and off with a multiple-setting plug in timer.

Well I do have a Room Humidifier, as described in my first post. It runs all day (not at night)

Maybe I should reverse that? OR have it going during the night too?
