i have a panther in a xl reptibreeze but i cant keep the humidity up i have live plants and i mist 3-5 times a day socking it. the humidity is always around 30-40%. i have a fogger which i was told not to use but i put this on and managed to maintain 50% easily. so my question is why are they a bad idea?

hi there :)

i see many people running them with no problems.as long as the enclosure is not enclosed causing stagnant air.you keep it clean and dont run it all day otherwise the viv wont have a chance to fully dry out and it can cause mold.we want moderate to high humidity not damp & mouldy conditions.
but you still want to mist aswell.
personally i would try other methods first as i do feel that misting is better.

also what hygrometer are you using as many are inaccurate.

you could try adding some perspex to the back an sides to help hold the humidity.x

thanks no it is fully open at the moment i might try a perspex back but on the side would make it look ugly where it is.

personally i would just try adding some perspex first see how that goes :)
have you considered getting wooden vivarium?.if i didnt have one i would suffer considering i live in the uk also :)

lol i have only just bought this one, i looked and looked to see which would be better but never really got any where.

ill add some more live plants i think and perspex, and if it still aint enough ill put the fogger on low.

thanks for your help crystal

maybe look out for a second hand one down the line if you are still having trouble.
but yeah try the perspex.
also do you get water dripping out the bottom of the reptibreeze?
a friend of mine did and also suffered with humidity.she then converted to a vivexotic arboreal like mine and meshed the roof and her cham is doing great 4yrs down the line.:)
i think that wooden vivs are better for us who live in the uk personally.unless you can maintain humidity & temps in a mesh cage of course.
no problem goodluck x

no my repti breeze is really good, i did drill a hole in the bottom and placed a tub to collect the water. the cage its self is really good imo.

hers leaked through the sides.your setup looks good.i would def a little more foliage tho maybe a tall ficus plant.they sell some nice ones in dobbies there about £15 for a 3/4ft one and ficus hold water droplets on there leaves well too.i have 2.check them out.maybe thats why you are suffering with humidity also.:)

ok will deffo have a look although never heard of dobbies

I like your enclosure! But yeah as xcrystalx said more foliage is better.
I moved my cham to his new 2'x2'x4' enclosure and I have the same problem with humidity although I have live plants(+some fake grape vines). I had a fogger in his small enclosure and with three sides closed the humidity was good but I had no draining, just wet towels at the bottom and a RI for my cham...
Now I have draining so I might try the fogger again. I closed two sides for now because I ordered Exo Terra background and that will cover the back. I hope it will help 'cause I don't want to deal with RI again. I mist 6 times 3 min. a day. The air is way dryer than it is in the UK. :)

i had never heard of dobbies till a few years ago when they built a store near me.if you dont have a local dobbies garden centre try homebase.b&q have some plants too but are a little dearer. i think another 1 or 2 plants would be good and hopefully you will see a difference.fingers crossed for you.
let us know how you get on :)
