Humidity, feeders, DIY

I"m having trouble keeping the humidity in my veileds enclosure up. I woke up this morning and the humidity was only at about 20%! So I sprayed the plants and the enclosure with some warm water and after some time I managed to get the humidity up to about 40%. I'm still working on getting it up but it seems like everytime I get it up to the right level by the next morning it's back down low again. Any tips for me to keep the humidity levels high? Other than just misting? I mist the cage about 4 times a day with warm water in a spray bottle.

Also if anyone knows any good threads on a DIY dripper for my enclosure, if you feel like it and have the time could you point me to it? Or any other cool DIY threads?

One more thing, what are some good feeders for crickets. I'm feeding them to a male baby veiled chameleon, not sure if that matters or not lol

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers :)

Hey first off what DIY? lol but get a fogger machiene it it will help keep humidity up and use it like an hour after thy wake up for 5 minutes to an hour and then if you wanna use it later in the day again or twice you can. Do you have real plants? usually that helps with humidity. they are from saudi arabia and id say try to get it to about 50 (according to wikipedia and their natural living humidty) also how long do you mis it for? try doing it for a few minutes each day. also is your cage close to a window? and for feeding your crickets i reccomend Repashy Bug burger and or Cricket crack. You can use just bug burger or switch off every other week or month between the 2. hope this helps!

To help with humidity you can wrap 1 or more side of your cage with platic such as a grabage bag or shower curtain cut to size. Also an auto mated mist system such as the Mistking or aquazamp will allow you to program a misting schedual that will maintain humidity.

20% humidity in Florida, wut?

Anyway the popular thing to do is start covering sides with plastic if its a screen cage, start with 2 adjoining sides.

The other popular thing is put in real plants, they naturally boost the humidity at least 10%.

Im running a mister for a combined 2 gallons a week + plants and i can barely keep it at 40%, but im in ohio with the heat on. its so dry i dont need to drain off th 2 gallons, it evaporates.

As for a feeder, try a sunnyD death trap, plenty of posts about it.

Haha - OT but I am having the same thing happen (I'm in Ohio as well) - I have not had to dump my drainage reservoir due to evaporation (which ironically helps raise the RH).

As others have said, you can try a cool mist humidifier set up near the cage. This will help raise the relative humidity (RH) - I typically run mine at night, as this is when my furnace runs (probably not an issue in FL). But also, it is beneficial to have a increase in RH at night.

Also, if you haven't seen it already, this is a great new resource: https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/chameleons/

Personally I bought a fogger? Just to help at night and when I'm not home. I also bought a fluker dripper and customized it with a multiple air hose connection to create a rainfall system with a catch at the bottom. You can buy it at any pet store for $5 and just attach the hose to it. ill post pictures on it soon. It doesn't do quite much for humidity but its there for water:) I still mist( you should always mist). As for a baby veiled I feed the crickets bananas, apples, kale and flukers orange cubes. I wanna see what you talking about with your rainfall system, that sounds interesting. And do you run your fogger at night? ive never done that

The rain system is the second picture. Really cheap and works great! I leave it on at night on low so the humidity stays up. I've heard nothing but back and forth on what range the humidity should be at night so I mist before I go to sleep and leave it on

Thanks guys!

Yes I have two live plants in the enclosure, one medium pathos and a small schefflera. The enclosure isn't necessarily close to any windows.

An yes I know 20% humidity in Florida is insane, the past few days have been chilly and relatively dry... At least for Florida haha.

I'm currently in class, but when I get home I plan on putting a garbage bag or shower curtain liner on to sides to see if that works. If I'm still having trouble I will probably invest in a misting system or fogger.

Thanks for all the feeder ideas as well!

And Hayden please do post picks of the rainfall system, I'm interested in seeing what you've done. You wouldn't happen to have a build thread on that would you? Lol sounds like a project I may be interested in.

This is somewhat off topic, but I just got my baby male veiled less than a week ago and I'm not sure old he is. Anyway to tell, or have a rough estimate or guess. He is approximately 3-4 inches. I can post pics later but I'm not sure how to do it on my phone.

Thanks.

interesting ive never thought of doing that, i try to leave it warm at night cuse my house is cold as balls in the mornin and night so i try to not disrupt it with humidity. but I also have a flap neck and they are not as dependant on humidity as other chameleon species, what do you have?

I have a veiled. But to keep my temp up in the cage/ room I directed my small heater toward the opening on his cage. It creates a on and off airflow (specifically when temp goes down) and allows the fogger to cycle all the way around with added heat. I never have to worry about heat, humidity and airflow anymore. I'll post pictures of my entire set up as of right now when I get off work. Along with what I used to make the rainfall system
