Humidifer or Misting System

Currently, I have a humidifier in my veiled chameleons room. My Dad said he would help me set up a misting system for my birthday, but he is finding to taxing/expensive. He wants to go the humidifier going directly into the cage.

The little guy is doing just fine, but wanted to make life even better for him. Would a humidifier do him justice in the long term or should I put my foot down and get a mister? Feel, free to share your experiences.

What kind of cham do you have? How much is your dad willing to put into a mister?

Short answer, no; a humidifier will not suffice as a misting system. MistKing is regarded as one of the best but there are cheaper alternatives (I think Climist has good reviews). A cheaper way would be using a dripper and hand mist together but most of us aren't around 24/7 to keep up with it. One an automatic misting system is set up, all you have to do is keep the reservoir bucket filled.

I would definitely recommend the misting system. A good humidifier is gonna cost, what, like $40 anyways? In the long run a $120 misting system is well worth the cost. The benefits and convenience of it cannot be emphasize enough, I use a humidifier in addition to my MistKing, but the MistKing is definitely the star in that lineup

Mist system is always recommended. The only time a humidifier is needed is when you have issues maintaining humidity at the appropriate level. As you may know, misting is needed to keep your chameleon hydrated. humidifiers often wont stimulate a chameleon to drink since the water particles are so fine. Misting also gives the chameleon a chance to clean its eyes which is important.

As for mist systems to get, I recommend and personally use Mist King. The timers are easy to set up and customize to whatever schedule you want and they are easy to customize to mist multiple cages with one pump. I actually run a poison dart frog enclosure off the same pump that sprays my chams cage so its pretty convenient.

Another brand i recommend is Climist. Its pretty much the same as a Mist King system as far a the pump and setup. I believe the timer is a little more simple and less customizable but I could be wrong.

If you absolutely cannot get a mist system, then you'll need a hand sprayer. Most home improvement stores like Lowes or Home Depot have pressurized spray bottles in the garden section that you pump up and pull the trigger. Its a lot easier than a regular spray bottle. The pressure sprayers are also pretty cheap and only cost $10 on the expensive side.

Now that work has let up a bit, like the others have said, a misting system is the way to go. With some searching around on a couple of sites you can diy your own for a bit less then the package mist systems. Look for a thread by @Panthro413 on the diy he did. I used a different pump then he did but essentially the same thing overall. The climist cyclone is only about $10 cheaper then the mistking starter so that one really comes down to timer preference to me.
