How's my setup so far?

I just began setting up my future friends cage today, and I just wanted to know how I'm doing.

I'm by no means done, I know I probably need more foliage throughout the cage, and if someone could give me a list of live plants I could find at a local Home Depot.

Also his basking spot is right at 95 degrees.

Thank you all in advance,

You def need more foliage. like alot, scheffelara and pothos are good.
Taller plants are better.
as for basking, way to hot. if you are getting a panther or veiled, they like temps 85 and under.

95 is too hot..raise the heat lamp up off the cage some to cool it to 85..as for plants just get a ficus benjamina..easiest to keep under reptile lighting

I just had a few other questions:

When I'm misting his cage should I just mist everything with my Cham included, or just all the branches and leaves?

Also, how often should I dust his crickets with the calcium? Mult vitamin?

Thanks again

mist everything. Your cham might run but that is ok. Use hot water in yours sprayer and it should spray out warm. Test first though. Most of us use plain calcium at every or most feedings, calcium with d3 a few times a month and the multi a couple times a month also.

What are you guys feeling on substrate? I know most people are against it but the people at the store were pushing it, and all there chams enclosures have it.

DONT DO IT! people at pet stores... are stupid. at least most of te time. if your cham ingests it, whether on purpose or accidentally. they can become impacted. and that requires a vet trip.

Ok well these are all questions I'm posting as they come to me, I've done Alot of research so I dont want you guys to think I'm to lazy to research stuff on my own and just want info spoon fed to me, I just want varied opinions.

So I bought a humidity and temp gauge I adjusted my light to get it to 85 at the hightest branch, what kinda humidity should I be looking for?

If it helps I'm getting a male veiled cham.

welcome to the forums

honestly with a male veiled youu dont have to worry about humidity if you mist a good amount 3-5X a day for about 3 minutes each or so

having a live plants helps alot , try a ficus or pothos

im a fan of a hibiscus my male freakin LOVES them and for some advice down the road chamalotchameleons has the best gutload and literally since ive fed that to my crickets his colors and sheds and health really have improved

Ok another question I thought of as I'm laying in bed,

I know they like the dark when they sleep so I'll turn all his lights off And of course my light, but I like to sleep with my tv on a low volume, will this little bit of noise or light from my tv affect his sleeping?

I'm so excited to get my cage perfect, so I can finally get him, I almost can't sleep!

Chams are essentially deaf, so no worries on sound. as for the light from the tv. no worries.

Home depot offers free shipping on anything they don't keep in stock at your local store. That's how I got my dwarf umbrella and pothos. I'm also waiting on my new chameleon and just asked the same questions you did haha

Try Umbrella plant and pothos combo with dowel rods. Umbrella is easy to care for and it likes humidity, pothos is...well pothos...it just grows a lot! And dowel rods are strong, sturdy, and cheaper than those fake vines. You can pick all this up at Walmart for under $30.

Another question,

If I lay my foliage across his branches and vines will he simply walk over it?

I ask because I feel like Alot of his walking space on his vines is being taken up with foliage draped over it

Yeah he will walk around it or over it, they shouldn't mind because in the wild they would not have nice clear pathways to use always.

i like hibiscus too, they just dont grow like a ficus or pothos under reptile lighting as well..(if you are close to a window you are set..and they love the flowers that grow on them)
