How to tell the difference.....

If I were to put an Ambilobe and a Ambanja next to each other what characteristics would I look for so that I could tell which was which? I'm trying to get better at visual identification.... What do I need to look for in each?

Maybe it's just something that experienced keepers can recognize... :)
But thought I'd give it a go!!!!!!!

Thanks,,, lisa

One is spelled with A-M-B-I and the other is spelled with A-M-B-A. That will conclude our lesson for today... :D No, seriously, when you find out, let me know... ;)

Ambanjas usually have a longer rostral and their colors are often on the "cooler" color spectrum vs. the "warmer" colors of Ambilobes.

My Ambanja is smaller than my Ambilobe, but that just may be because my Ambilobe is unusually large. My Ambanja is also shy vs. my very outgoing Ambilobe, but again, I only have those two to compare.

Ambanjas also tend to have a taller casque than ambilobes. An ambanja might also have a patch of yellow on its face/cheeks.

Ambanjas tend to be very Libertarian in their political choices too, whereas Ambilobes lean a little more towards the Democrats. Parsons are Republicans, which is no surprise to anyone!

Ambis tend to have more reds and yellows, they in general have more colors.
Banjas tend to have more blues and greens, and the shape of their bars are different.

Ok,,, that's something that I can "see", if they are side by side, the rostral size , color spectrum might be easier to "get"! Thanks shaunaroxanne!!!!

and lest it not be mentioned, ambi's will often have a good "Y" bar, vs. let's say a "U" bar in a sambava. banja's won't make that pattern by accident, and their lines are maybe more linear and wavy.

good illustration here:

and for their complete guide which i think is great in general, here:

, just hover over "Panthers" and the patterns of many locales of pardalis are shown. handy reference!

Hmmmmm, I can see that if they are, once again, side by side........ About the yellow on the face/cheeks,,, I thought that that was a Faly trait..... Which throws in another "species/local" to ID... :)

Uh oh,,,, here comes the politics,,, I'm sooo lost now!!!!!! ;)

Well maybe..... Only if you're going to help me figure this out!!!!!;)

You know, as a non-breeder (at this point in time), I really don't care what's what, who's who, and who's on 3rd base. I admire all of them for their beauty! :D If and when I decide to kick off my breeding, then I'll start paying attention to these details. ;) I say all of this to say that you're on your own, sista! :D
