How to tell Deremensis Types?

Hi,

I'm new to the forums as well as keeping chams, however I just picked up a pair (male/female) of deremensis chams (didn't know at the time they were harder to take care of until I did some Goog'ling.).

Anyway, I'm trying to find more info on them (it's hard!). I see references to different kinds (WC, CH, CB). How can I tell what kind I have? How big will they really get? They're about 4" long now (not including their tail).

Also, I was told I need to build a bedding somewhere at the bottom of the cage with crushed coconut shells for the female to lay her eggs. How big does it have to be and how deep? Would a tupperware dish work?

Thanks in advance!

Those terms (wc, ch, cb) refer to the origin of your chams...either Wild Caught, Captive Hatched, or Captive Bred). Unless the seller was telling the truth, you may never know which you have.

At that size they are close to or possibly full grown.

Watch the female for weight gain, and change in coloration (not just in reaction to light or heat) to see if she is gravid. You are not keeping them together in the same cage are you? They should NOT be kept together all the time, only for breeding.

I'd suggest doing a forum search on deremensis to find more specific threads on breeding. There should be quite a few. Also check for species specific threads under the "Species" tab.

Couple things: first, of the "montane" chameleons I'd definitely consider a healthy pair of deremensis to be on the easier side if provided with what they need so don't worry too much. 2nd, I've got a great, lengthy article from the Chameleon Information Network I could email you if you pm me your address.

Thanks for that info! Yes, they're being kept together (as I was told it was ok as long as the cage was big enough). The cage is 65 gal tall. They seem to get along though, but they do stay apart from each other.

opps sorry, I got post confused. I am new here but not new to chameleons. I'll go introduce myself, sorry for the intrusion.
see you all here

*edited* :) snake-I'm a she lol

You'll see more of me, I've been a lurker for a long while. I just finally joined. Should have ages ago. I enjoy reading most every bodies post.
