How to do a streaming webcam?

We would like to do a streaming webcam in one of our chameleon rooms. My husband builds computers, but my husband and I know nothing about webcams or where to go for a streaming host, etc.

Our thoughts are to have it running at least during "lights on". We don't necessarily want people to communicate with us through the portal, but that would be OK.

Does streaming video require a mediacaster hardware? It looks like you don't need that if you use a network camera.

Free streaming would be best, but a minor monthly cost would probably be OK.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance. Sandy

Thank you for the input. That link to Newegg looked interesting.

What I am aiming for, if possible, is a remote camera, set up in our Cham room 2, to view the Meller's open range.

It would operate through our wireless network.

I would like to have live streaming video, embedded in a page on our website.

I don't necessarily want others to change the camera angle remotely, because there are times I will be in there and will want to be out of view.

I would like a fairly clear color picture.

Is any, or all, of this possible? Are any of you doing this now, for chams or for other purposes? I know people use this for remote surveillance of homes, vacation homes, businesses, etc.
