How to avoid eating dirt in bioactive cages

Hi all, anyone have suggestions for how to avoid your Cham eating the ground foliage when doing bioactive setup ?
For example Biodude uses his soil topped with sphagnum etc. I know you can use a feeding dish but if you aren't using a feeding dish would you avoid a bioactive setup ? Covering the entire ground with rocks may seem a bit extreme.

I use a thick leaf litter, but it mainly to feed and protect the clean up crew. My male veiled regularly hunts his isopods and if he’s getting bits of leaf litter with it, I’m really not too concerned as it passes thru.

Some of the branches I had gotten from a neighbor had lots of leaves. As my yard lacks leafy trees, I have used chopped up palm fronds from my yard and then had to resort to buying leaves. I believe I got them from Etsy. Bio Dude sells leaf litter, but all of his stuff is over-priced imo. Josh’s frogs may have some.
