Hi Guys, I need your help! Can anyone guess about how old my little guy Mateo is? I was told he was 3 months old when I got him and I have had him a month already. Could they have misfigured his age or maybe he is just small. What do you think? These pictures where just taken today.

He is maybe three months old now. He even looks a little younger than that to me. Maybe even a she??? Could you post some tail pics? I think they may have made a mistake on age. Below are some pics for comparison.

EDIT : even if its a she "it" looks small for 4 months as well. A male at 4 months would be a lot larger than "it" appears and his head would be a little more developed.

Here are some rear shots? Male or Female? I bought him from Mike at FLchams, and Mike said (and listing stated) that he was 3 mos old when I got him. I have had him for 4 weeks now, but I still feel that he is much younger than 4 mos, compared to my previous chams that were the same age when I purchased them.

I see a small bulge (Very Small) that lends more proof that he is younger than 4 months. I am going to say he is male just younger than you expected. I would trust Mike's sexing ability. He is far more experienced than I am. Not sure how he could confuse the age. I guess it is possible he is just smaller? Maybe ask Mike for a hatch date. He should be able to clear up any confusion.

I agree with you on the age thing. Looks younger based on my experience.

Panthers grow at incredibly different rates. If you are used to watching Veileds grow it will make it seem like there is something wrong with how slow Panthers grow. I bet that at any minute that little guy hits a growth spurt. My 3 1/2 month old female Panther I got from Mike tripled in size by 6 months of age.

Thanks Julirs - That make me feel better. He really is tiny. I have 3 mos old rudis babies that are the same size he is?!

I have four panthers and all of them grew a little differently but that guy looks really small to me. Especially if the same size as a 3 month old baby rudis. I am sure there are always differences and even runts in clutches. Some just take time to get bigger, Very interesting can't wait to see him spurt up. Cute little guy. I do not have any experience with Veileds so nothing for me to compare it with. I thought my panthers grew really fast.

Thats a boy and I would say around 3 months old comparing it to my babies.

Thats what I am seeing as well.

I think a call to Mike might clear up any confusion. If he says it is 4 months then I would have no doubt. It would be interesting to see if maybe a mistake was made. Not likely seeing it is Mike and FLChams but would be interesting to find out.

Just go a nice email from Mike. He said that the baby might have been a week or less from 3 mos. when I got him. He said Julie is right and that they all grow at different rates - so not to worry. I guess I thought I might have the first midget chameleon on record!! Can't wait until I can post pictures of him when he is larger and has his father's (brantley) coloring.

Very interesting.. Pygmy Panther :D :D

So he may still be in the 3 month range (3.75 months or so). I bet in a couple of weeks he shoots up in size. His colors are nice for being so little. I can see some reds and definitely some blues.

He is very cute , what is the locale? Is he a big eater?

is that true for all chameleons, around the 3 1/2 mark they start gettin growth spurts?

That is just a guess on my part. What I have learned from this thread is they all grow up different and there will be differences with every Cham.
