How old does a male have to be before showing good color?

So I know a dumb question, right? Well we have what we thought were 2 male panthers. One an Ambanja who is about 9-10 months old. Another Ambilobe/Nosey who is around the same age, maybe a month younger. We purchased our Ambanja from LLL, of course they could not be certain of the sex which we knew. But our little guy isn't showing much color. He (she) is staying more of the black/grey, and orange-ish color. When mad the orange is really poping. So I am wondering around what age are the males when the color starts:eek: to come out, and how fast does that happen? When I get a chance I will post pix of the two, maybe that will help. I do have a few pix posted in my gallery one good one of Krueger our Ambanja. Thanks for any tips!

i think a 10 mo male ambanja panther should have some kind of coloration out already.
your panther remain orange/ pinkish coloration that age? first of all, are you positive of your chameleon's age?
if both answer is yes, I have a feeling that your male panther might be a she...

Yeah "she" is around 9 months old. Stays mainly grey until mad and then the black and some orange comes out. I called the bfriend and told him to take some pix for me, our "boys" live with him. Then I will post the pix later. But yeah I am leaning more towards Krueger being a girl as well. Now I feel just terrible for calling her a boy this whole time. As if girls don't have enough problems already! LOL Thanks for your help.

BTW, you might need a bucket of moist sands mixed with soil handy.

You will see color at about 3 or 4 months of age, when I say color I mean you will see greens, possibly reds or blues for an ambanja. If the picture on your profile is your chameleon, it is definitely a she, if she is showing black and red when she sees a male, she is gravid. It looks like she is about full size in that picture, so I don't think you are going to see any other colors. But the answer to your question is 3 or 4 months and they will normally be fully colored at a year old.
