hi i have only had my cham since saturday and i just wanted to know how offen i should spray him atm im doing it twice a day once in the morning and about 7pm is there such a thing as over spraying ?

Well you want your cage to dry out between misitings, so yes if you do it too often it could leave the cage constantly wet. Don't mist before the lights go out either. I would mist if you are home and have the opportunity three times a day for 3-5 minutes. Saturate the cage. It brings up the humidity and gives your chameleon time to drink before it all dries up. How long are you misting for? Does he drink right away? Do you see him drinking at all? Some chameleons need to be stimulated to drink and it can take more than a couple of minutes to do so.

i turn his lights on at 7am and i mist at 9am for about 4 mins and the same at 7pm i have a little dripper that is on all day for him i have seen him drink from the dripper

oh that is good you have the dripper going. I was going to ask you that. If you chameleon does not drink from the mistings then it is not necessary to be misting all that much for hydration purposes. The mistings serve as humidity accelerators which I am sure you know. What are your humidity levels before and after misting?

i dont have a humidity gauge in there atm im getting one after i finish work but the temp goes from around 85f to about 76f-78f after i mist and then after a while comes back up to 85f or just above if that helps but will defo be getting one what sort of levels should i be aiming for when i put this in tonight ?

sorry to ask all these question i just really wanna do whats best on the food side atm the previous owner used to only feed locoust and wax worms i dont really wanna go the cricket route to change it up for him so have you any ideas i have seen people feeding all sorts eg small lizards, mice , grapes, mealworms ?

Veilds will eat a variety of fruits and vegetables more so than other species. Try some dark leafy greens, kale, mustard green, collard greens etc. You can try the grapes or other fruits. Just make sure they are cut up enough to consume.Waxworms are super high in fat, probably the fattiest worm of all I think. Do you have access to silkworms, hornworms, or superworms? Pinkies are frowned upon due to their high protein content and are said to cause gout but people do feed them. Not something I would do. I know of others feeding their chams small lizards too. I have them all over in my yard and my chameleon would love to eat them! He got one once but I did not like it! It is not something I would feed him deliberately. Just my opinion!! Do you have the proper supplements to dust your feeders with?

Are you talking about your basking area? You do have a basking light right? 85 for a basking is fine but your whole cage should be alot cooler than that if that is what you mean. i would aim for like an 85 basking and a mid 70's ambient temp

I am with you on that! I don't know what is available to you over there or other wise I could help you. Maybe you could pm Miss Lilly. She has been a member for a long time and probablycould help you out on where to get feeders. She has two Veilds. You are in England right?
