How much Vitamin B

My rescued veiled that is having tongue issues still, i have decided to start on a 1 week regiment of vitamin b complex after reading a few threads about it. He has been on oral calcium and has not been making any progress. My question is how much do you give? I have bought a vitamin b complex that is B1, B2, 6,12, etc.But how do you give it to them as well? I know you crush it up, but then i don't know what to do and how to do it. He has made some progress since he has been with us and is starting to use his tongue to a certain extent but still will not eat on his own and has great difficulty getting it to do what he wants it to do. Any suggestions? He is 2 years old and about 170 gr. His name is Sammy.

I would relax a bit. I don't think reading a few threads on here should make you start changing their supplements. He looks to be good and healthy, I personally wouldn't change. I mean, all breeders have had a chameleon here or there that have hatched and not been able to use their tongues correctly. If you haven't then you haven't hatched enough or watched them close enough. Some after a while do develop the ability to shoot their tongues and some don't. I have one make that would only pick things off branches at first and now (after 7 months) he is shooting his tongue a good 8 inches and I have a female from a totally different breeder that is about a year old and she still chases them down and can't really shoot.

I would start feeding slow moving feeders, silkies and horn worms, then start with crickets. Watch to see if he goes after them and if he misses a few times it's ok, he will learn. I would definitely sill hand feed him a few after he chases for a while just to make sure, but he will learn after a while.

Good luck,

I've done more than read a few thread on vitamin B and this was suppose to be due to an injury that occured over 5 months ago. Since then he WILL NOT eat on his own. He has to be force fed every other day which is not healthy for him. I've tried all different types of feeders and he will not take them. I've tried cup feeding and free-range and nothing. He is having trouble using his tongue and from what i understand about vit B is your body does get rid of what it doesnt use , so unless i'm missing something i don't understand what harm it would do to try giving it to him for 1 week. If you know something i don't about vit B i would certainly appreciate hearing it but where he isn't eating on his own, and hasn't for months i think it is certainly worth a try.

I haven't spoken with Stacey at all about vitamin B but I do know that even though the body can excrete water soluble vitamins if they are in excess, they can cause the absorption rate of other water soluble vitamins to change. A very important water soluble vitamin is calcium. Again I am not a nutritionist, just live with one.

But I would be interested in reading the threads that you are talking about. Can you post the link?

Let me look for them later on tonite, they were older ones so i will have to do some searching. The last one i read was very informative though and i thought it would be worth a shot. At this point, without doing something else, this male will be having to be force fed for the rest of his life which is not a very good prognosis. My vet doesn't have a clue either and i have never been able to get any of the records from where he was origianlly brought.

I've been a little busy so i need to double check. I'm still looking for theinfor that i had found. What kind of ratio should it be? Do you mean that if i increase the vit b i should increase everything? That is not the info that i was reading.

I'm thinking that maybe you don't have those things in balance and that's why his tongue isn't getting any better...just a thought...not sure.

What do you mean? Remember, he came to me this way. Actually he is better than when he first came. When he first came he wouldn't use his tongue at all, now he uses it to drink at least.

You said..."My rescued veiled that is having tongue issues still"..."has been on oral calcium and has not been making any progress"...he should be making more progress IMHO if it is a calcium problem and the balance is correct. What is in the supplements you are using and in what you feed to the insects in the way of phosphorous, calcium, D3 and preformed vitamin A?
