how much do you guys spend??

Wow guys, some of you are spending small fortunes on your chams! Doesn't it seem riddiculous sometimes how we spend more to feed a couple chameleons than it costs to feed a couple dogs a high quality premium food? :D

I try not to spend more than I really have to, and with 4-5 different insects a month I think it's good for a typical diet. I put a lot of effort into gutloading my insects with really great stuff, so I hope that it makes up for any missing links in their diet. With 5 chameleons, I think spending only $30-40 is a miracle, and they still eat really well.

I believe having more chameleons makes it less expensive per chameleon. Shipping is usually less expensive, and often the more you buy the less expensive the insects are. Here, my girlfriend and I just got our second and third chameleon and we aren't spending more than 50% of our initial cost to feed our three chameleons total! :)

IE: Before it was maybe 50$ a month, now it's 75$! :)

For my two, an average of about $50-$70 because of the shipping and what not for various feeders. I buy crickets, occational superworms (working on breeding them,) buy silkworms every 1-1.5 months and have them for at least two weeks. I get hornworms every 1.5-2 months. I get butterworms occationally. I have two diffferent types of roaches that I feed off and have to feed.

And now, I am starting a super rad painted lady and cabbage white butterfly breeding operation. I shall be selling soon :) I may be selling the cabbage whites sooner than the painted ladies though. :) It was super expensive though, so my average for feeders probably just went up to about $90-100.

variation...

I am not, because only feeding one insect is not very good. It can work, but it's too risky for me! ;)

For 3 chameleons, i think my girlfriend and I spend maybe 75$ a month total. That includes hornworms for at least 2 to 3 meals a week, a few silkworms from time to time, and plenty of crickets and superworms as they can eat.

Hope you didn't think I was commenting on the variation. I know they need a varied diet... but he said he only spends about $10 month on crickets and no way I could spend that little even just on crickets, they are more expensive than that around here, and then ordering online the shipping is more than $10.... plus the cost of other foods like mini mealworm and flightless fruit flies ect.... I have a buy so not yet even into the larger feeders.... plus cost of gut loading... I just no way could pull it off for $10

I dont spend much usually. I only have 6 adult panthers currently, and never more than 8 adults. I breed most of my feeders for myself. I grow a good portion of my gutload. I do buy large crickets and butterworms periodically, and I buy silkworm chow once a year or so, and the occassional hornworm treat.

Averaged out, I might spend $25-30 a month.

When I have babies (like right now) I spend a lot more - an additional $25 a week ($100 a month) for crickets, plus a few extra butters etc.
