We just moved to Hawaii not long ago and have become interested in getting a Jackson Chameleon. I am currently in the in the process of building a 16x16x36inch screen enclosure. My question, some places say that you can have more then one in the cage, others say no. What is your experience? Thank you.

I don't know who is telling you to put more than 1 per cage, but from my knowledge all non-pygmy chameleons are solitary animals and must be kept 1 per cage (including male/female). There may be some confusion because PYGMY species can be kept in groups (but still should be limited to 1 male per group)
I'm not super familiar with jacksons, but as a general rule males should get 24x24x48 and females 18x18x36.

A lot of the islanders who raise them say that you can keep them together as do several other breeders I've spoken to. The problem is some say do it, some say don't which is why I figured I'd ask a larger group of people. As for the size of the cage, it is a starter cage for one juvenile. He/she will get a bigger one in a few months.

Hey welcome to hawaii and the forums. But to answer your question. No it is not okay. Housing them together cam create alot of stress and tension on the chameleons and can also start fights because they are territorial. So it is not advised to keep them together. Stress=shorter lifespan

rule of thumb is they should only be housed together if theyre mating or young juvies.
i too see it all the time but that dosnt mean its okay.
personally if i lived in hawaii i wouldnt even bother with keeping them captive.
i dont know why so many people from hawaii do.
what i would do is just build a really nice garden make it nice and ideal for them. collect a bunch and leave then loose in your garden. maybe work on hand feeding them so they come to see you when youre around.
maybe even buy a misting system. i see people buy them for patios for hot day. it can give you a dual function, cool you off on hot days and make staying in your garden even more appealing.
well thats what i would do.
saves money and you can keep more than one in the same area since they always have the option of escaping.
