How many do you see?

I am realy suprised by your anser. you would think that babys would need a good dusting of vitamins and minerals at least for good bone and muscle growth.
so in other words, even young adults and full sized adults don't get dusted so much like say a panther?

the reason I ask is that some chameleons don't seem to do well with dusting regularly...or they just don't need to have vitamin and mineral dustings that much.

while I personaly get a little lazy and don't dust "worms" that much, if at all...
I do dust my crickets with just calcium almost every day.
then maybe once a week I choose between, miner-all, reptical, and lastly calcium w/D3.

just wondering if you don't dust much because they don't need it, or more because you feel that gutloading alone is all you need....????

Hi,

the supplementation with montane species is a special topic. I prefer like luevelvet "healthy" feeders. Oversupplementation can cause a lot of problems with montane species.
With panthers and other very fast growing species like calyptratus it's another topic. They need a perfect supplementation, if not, the problems come sooner or later. The things which could go wrong here in the first months couldn't be compensate later

thanks to all who replyed about suplements...sorry if this turned into a thread jack.

after all, this thread and the one from Luis is a conspiricy if you ask me...
they just don't want me to change my mind and not get a quad. :p

I've been talking to a few people here on this forum, and also talked to my nephiew about what I should get next.
almost everyone agrees that I should just get a female ambilobi as it would be easyer on me to provide the requirements needed.
yet I'm also someone who doesn't like to jump into things lightly...
so I desided that I'll just have to get both in time. :p

the quad will come first...no worries Josh, I'm sure you'll pic out a nice one for me when the time comes. :)
I just wanted to be prepaired first as to what I'll need to do, and you guys are a great help.

I now understand that we are dealing with a montane chameleon and that supliments are not needed as badly as say a panther. I'm glad I asked first, yet sorry again if this seemed like a thread jack.

Hey Harry,

I think the difference in supplementation is in how fast hte animals tend to grow. In 6 months, a Male Panther will be almost the same size if not bigger than my 11 month old Meller's. It's the growth and development you're supplementing, not the species necessarily.

Montane species live with a different perception of time than other warmer climate species. Due to their prefered lower temps, it takes a little while longer for them to develop, thus not needing the levels of extra calcium and supplements.

I have mine in a half of a 2x2x4 (effectively a 2x2x2) with 2x24" ReptiSun's 5.0 on a 12 on 12 off schedule. We mist and feed roughly 4 times a day, but a mister can automate that and as they grow, thier constant demands for food will dwindle. They're just like any other baby chameleon, except they like it wet and cool.

No worries! I would certianly prefer that you are ready before getting a quad! I will always have or be about to have quads available. One will be here when you are ready.
