I'm going to have a few panther hatchlings and i'm wondering how many Melanogaster cultures i'll need to have going per cham. I plan to buy a kit from josh's frogs and culture a bunch before they hatch, so i'd just l like some feedback on how many i should be shooting for.

also how many fruitflies would one eat a day? 100? 200?

Thanks

I wouldn't get the Melangasters. Go for the D. hydei, because they are bigger, but not too big for a hatchling. If you only have a few hatchlings, you can buy 1 producing cup and one non-producing culture. The producing culture will make thousands of flies and last long enough for your 2nd culture to explode. By the time you are done with both cultures, your chams should be well on there way to eating larger prey.

Oh ok, i was worried that it was going to be too big for just hatched chams, i'll go with hydei then.

i have baby chams and i have 3-5 fruit fly cultures running at once but all at different stages. some are just starting to breed but others have hundreds and one of them is almost done. something to keep in mind if your ordering off line, make sure you have enough food cause they will eat you out of your house!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well i hope to have 10-20 cultures running eventually that'll make it 0.3-0.7 cultures per cham, is that enough? to feed them all?

I also feed pin head crickets, so my cultures last a bit longer, but again... better to have too many, than not enough!

15 should cover you.
but i would have at least 4 active ones by the time your eggs are fnished hatching

I have 32 veiled babies, and have 8 decent cultures going. and i need to start 4 more.

did they all hatch around the same time? b/c i think mine will hatch at very different times, the eggs are quite different in terms of progress, some are enlarged already and some are still the size they were when they were laid. should that be a concern? or are they variable in growth rates and some will just hatch earlier than others?
