Curious to know how many gnat cultures I need to have going and how many pin heads I will need to purchase to feed 20 babies (if all, or if any hatch).

Do you feed so crickets to the babies one day then gnats the next? Or mostly gnats? Mostly crickets?

Wow, i have read on this forum that you need around 3000-5000 pinheads a week for 20-30 babies, a on the gnat cultures i believe would be the same, good luck on your babies

20 babies will roughly go through 1000 crickets a week along with a constant supply of fruit flies. I usually keep 2000 crickets on hand and I feed about 250 every other day. With the fruit flies I usually have 8 producing cultures going and will feed them on the days I don't feed crickets. These numbers will always vary and you will have to be the ultimate judge. You should ALWAYS see food items running around when you look in your cage since babies will eat all the time they need to have a constant supply that they can easily find so if you cant see any food items then they probably cant either. Just be careful not to overrun the cage with insects, this can be bad as well.

Is there a specific type of fruit fly I should be buying? One better than the other? What is a good price per fruit fly culture?

Most species are able to take hydei with no issue's. Hydei are the largest species commonly found in culture.

I make my own cultures. I usually keep no less then 10 producing cultures. I use producing cultures for about a week. Every 5-7 days I make 5 new cultures.

Along with the fruit flies I also use 5000-7000 crickets, aphids, bean beetles and silkworms.
