How long without UVB??

Hi all..I've had Trixxi out sitting on the window sill (inside) most of the day,temp got no higher than 80,she seemed to like being out as every time i went to put her back in is ran from me!:rolleyes:had her out about 7 hours all in all.....sprayed her so she could drink....so how long is long enough without the UVB light on her??thanks for any help guys
 
they can go days with no effects to the human eye. 20 minutes of natural sunlight is the eqivalent of 12 hours under a repti sun
 
Not really answering your question, but im sure somebody will but...

Does she ever get time in the sun without the window glass stopping the uv?

I'm sure i read somewhere... i could be completely wrong... but 2 hours in natural sunlight means the cham could do without the bulb for a couple of days because the natural light would have made a good supply of D3 to absorb the calcium.

Gary is right; Glass will block all the UVB from the sunlight. So, if weather permitting, I suggest opening the window and let the unfiltered light to come in.
If you have screening to cover the window, that might be best to prohibit your chameleon from escaping.

On the other notes, I don't mean any disrespect; So, please don't see this as an insult.
But, I am just wondering how do you guys come up with those numbers?
Any good links or documents that back that statistic? I am interested to read them.

Sorry, i cant remember where i read it :( I did so much reading when deciding to get Peanut for my dad.
I will go over bookmarks in the morning... hopefully one of them has it, if not i'll do a search :D
 
OK....so now shes freaking me out!....she has been sitting again today inside the window....doesn't want to go back inside her viv......temps,humidity all fine,no feeders running around her viv to annoy her...so whats the deal??why does she prefer to sit at the window staring out than being inside her viv?could it just be that she simply likes looking out the window?If i put her back in she just turns around and comes and sits at the front watching me,i am sure if she could speak she'd be saying *let me outta here NOW*!!Will it do her any harm being out of her tank for long periods at a time,like 6 hours or more?
 
Lily could be really stubborn at going back in her viv too sometimes - she would do a u-turn on my arm and bend back round on herself in her efforts to stay out! I read somewhere (probably on here) that if they are out but have no heat source then they will go back willingly for some warmth. Maybe try putting her on a plant away from the window for a while to cool off a bit before you try and put her back. :D Just a thought... gotta be worth a try. As for the length of time without UV, I'm not sure, but Lily used to be out in her other cage (without UV or heat bulbs) by the window for a few hours at a time (probably 3 at the most).
 
As nice days go they are few and far between here in the U.K:p...You don't think it could be doing her any harm being out of her viv for so long?
 
So this is her 3rd day of wanting to be out and about!I tried Miss Lily's' tip(see above) but when i did this she just started to head back towards the window!!she almost bends back on herself to get back on to my arm and i am scared she will hurt herself.I am worried as to why she wants out so much....do any of you think i should move her viv next to a window so she can look out...will this cure her of wanting out?......From the pictures below she looks like shes trying out for the neighbourhood watch!:p
 
The important thing is the synthese of vitamin d3. Check out some articles about it, it's to difficult to explain in in English for me:eek:
 
Even when she don't get the full spectrum of the sunlight, she gets a part of it. And that's definitly very good for her. Natural sunlight helps a lot to get healthy animals
 
Lily would roam and not want to be in her viv when she was receptive. Trixxi does look very colourful, so maybe she is looking for a male? Maybe someone with more experience can help more with that one, as I've only had experience with the one receptive cham so far!

Oh God!i do hope not:D Will that mean that she is due to lay any time soon?
 
I would guess that the window is warmer than the inside of the viv, so the cham likes to bask there, but i dont have enough information to determine that

Yep,your right,the window does get warmer than her viv but at the same time if i had the same temps inside her viv as the window she would be sitting in there with her mouth wide open!i suppose that's the down side to having a glass viv:(
