Hi there!
Sounds like your chameleon may have something in their eye. Usually this is caused by allot of things.
A few that come to mind is substrate (Dirt, wood chips, coconut husks, etc. On bottom of cage), Branches with peeling bark, this can cause eye irritation. Also what are you feeding your chameleon? Super worms & hornworms can cause eye injuries.
Is your chameleons eye sunken in? Or is it swollen and closed? My chameleon takes about a minute at the most to clean his eyes. My vet prescribed me to some eye drops my last vet visit which i gave them to him 10 consecutive days to help clean them out. So far he's on his 12th day and he doesn't clean his eyes as much. Usually only after a good misting.
Also you can help this process by placing a plant inside the shower, turning the shower on so it's not too hot to the touch, aim the shower head at the wall so the water somewhat mists the plant. This can help your chameleon with cleaning their eyes, digesting food, and staying hydrated
I usually leave Jasper on the plant for 10-20 minutes max.
