Hi, i own a 4 month old female jackson chameleon and lately i have noticed that she keeps her right eye closed most of the time. I know sometimes they do this to clean their eyes but this has been going on for almost 2 days now. She is still drinking and eating fine though. Thanks in advance

:) Hello, Sorry your having issues with your cham. It sounds like some other kind of issue other than cleaning. It would help if you could copy and paste the link below and fill in your answers. This will help see an over all picture of her and her care and see if anything there could cause issues. Pictures are great too.

You can also try and put a plant in the shower with the warm spray hitting the wall and let her take a shower for 20-30 minutes. This may help if she does have something in there and needs a good cleaning. Showers are always good anyway. :D
Sure others will be along soon to help you problem solve if still closing her eye.

Hi there!

Sounds like your chameleon may have something in their eye. Usually this is caused by allot of things.

A few that come to mind is substrate (Dirt, wood chips, coconut husks, etc. On bottom of cage), Branches with peeling bark, this can cause eye irritation. Also what are you feeding your chameleon? Super worms & hornworms can cause eye injuries.

Is your chameleons eye sunken in? Or is it swollen and closed? My chameleon takes about a minute at the most to clean his eyes. My vet prescribed me to some eye drops my last vet visit which i gave them to him 10 consecutive days to help clean them out. So far he's on his 12th day and he doesn't clean his eyes as much. Usually only after a good misting.

Also you can help this process by placing a plant inside the shower, turning the shower on so it's not too hot to the touch, aim the shower head at the wall so the water somewhat mists the plant. This can help your chameleon with cleaning their eyes, digesting food, and staying hydrated :)

I usually leave Jasper on the plant for 10-20 minutes max.
