how hot is too hot

how hot can the basking temp get before i shut off the bulb?

??????? the temp hit 100 today in vinnies basking spot so just wondering if that is fine or if i should shut it off for a bit during the hottest part of the day

Too hot, what wattage is it? 60 watt is good this time of year, I think
Or you can raise the light fixture up off the cage

lol its a 40 watt... i would lower the watts if i could but in the morning and in the evening its down to 80

I was having a problem also with highs and lo's at different times. Too high and too low. I actually got those dome lights with the dimmer so I can adjust it accordingly. It has made it a lot easier to control

What I wouldn't do for an 80' day! Haven't seen the sun in a week...at all. Just fog
Is there a way you can set your timer to turn off for an hour or 2 during the hot time of day?

well i like the idea of a dimmer ill look into that and for now ill turn it off for a few hours a day

Are you talking about a panther chameleon?
They can take warmer temperatures (low 90's...maybe even higher) for short periods of time as long as they get lots of water....as long as they are adults. I wouldn't keep let a hatchling or young chameleon's temperatures go very high.

yep hes a panther and thanks hes been doing fine and almost looks like he likes it when its that hot but ill still look into a dimmer

How old is your panther? That also has an impact on how hot it can handle.
