Hello I'm new to this site. I have some questions about my Jackson's Chameleon. Can someone help me

I have a "primer" on how to use the search function, which I will send you you. For now go to the top where it says forums, click on health forums, write a title, and post your questions. We will all be happy to answer questions. You can also send me a pm, actually i am sending you a pm so you can respond instead of having to figure out that too.:) And since I forgot welcome to the forum.

I use screen cages for my jacksons, but I do use glass terrariums for my k. Tavatanas. Did you get my pm's?

Thank you Laurie. So is it true That a screened terrariums is better than a glass terrarium?

It depends on if your talking about an actual terrarium or an aquarium. There is a difference. Terrariums like those made from exo-terra promote good ventilation, which is good for species that require higher humidity (like jacksons), but aquariums are meant for fish, and have poor ventilation, not suitable for most chameleons.

Im talking about terrariums. I have a exo-terra 18x18x24 terrarium but i hear it is not good to keep a Jackson's in a glass terrarium

Nothing wrong with terrariums. You just have to regulate the heat because you wont need a strong heat lamp at all since the glass holds the heat really well. Probably best to use a screen cage because I would recommend a slightly bigger cage for Jacksons (18, 18, 36), and terrariums only come in certain sizes.

Yeah. I was looking into the exo-terra 24x24x48 screened terrarium because that would be sufficient for the rest of his life span, However maintaining the humidity may be difficult. What do you recommend for substrate. Right now I'm using the Zoo-Med coconut husk but I;m afraid it may cause a blockage if ingested.

I would suggest using some contact paper to cover three sides of the enclosure and buying a tray (you can buy both the cage and tray from Chameo.org) for the bottom of the cage so your able to hold substrate. Put one layer of hydroton, some window screen to seperate it from the soil, and then organic potting soil on top.

The set up I have now is the 18x18x24 exo-terra glass terrarium with coconut husk for the bottom. I have numerous plastic vines and one real plant called drecanea I'm not sure if I spelled that right. And I have some fake vines. For heat I have a 50 watt Zilla incandescent Black heat bulb and I use a 26 watt 5.0 Repti glo UVB bulb. The temp stays around 75 - 80 degrees and the humidity ranges from 60 - 90. I have a drip system for drinking. Do you think this is sufficient or should I make some changes I will be posting pics of him and his home in a few days.

none..keep it bare or use paper towels..easy to clean...:)

they dont walk on the floor much and its easy for them to catch prey, so the bugs wont hide or burrow...
