How do you keep fruit flies in the neonite bin!

Title says it all. I am babysitting and have 3 babies in a plastic shoebox with a screened top and lots of plastic plants. Seems like the babies and the flies prefer to be on the screen instead of down in the fake plants. I don't mind the babies walking on the screen, but the flies can squeeze through it!

Soooooo how do you keep the flies in the shoebox?

OOPS, that should be neonate. Sorry for the typo.

Try a piece of fruit

Place a few slices of fruit in several areas and the flies tend to stay on or near them. Oranges and banana work well.

Jann, the flies don't fly, but they do walk. I have clipped the top to the sides of the container so I know they don't get out that way, but like I said, I have seen them squeeze through the screen. They must be walking up the sides. Do you think that slippery tape would work?

I don't know about the tape.......it might work. Try the fruit as suggested above.......that sounds like a good idea.

Ive heard that you can rubbing a small amount of vasoline around the inner edge of the bin will prevent the ff's from escaping but ive never used bins to raise babys so i couldnt tell you if it works or not.

Fruit flies

When I first started using fruit flies in bins they were always escaping. I got fed up one day and grabbed a pair of my girlfriends pantyhose and stretched it over the top of the bin. I cut the legs off and tied little knots so the flies couldn't run out the leg holes. Now we got a hold of some little butterfly cubes and they work perfectly. fruit flies can't escape these little cubes. The pantyhose thing worked well for me at the time LOL.
