How do you guys dust your crickets????

I think the most important issue, from the standpoint of this OP, is "dust early or dust right before feeding" and I think we agree that dusting right before feeding (whether you do the "swirl" or the "shaker"*).

Okay...the "swirl" the "shaker"...have I just watched too much Seinfeld? Because I find it all very sexually suggestive...I just wonder where the "knuckle" is going to come into play....

What about those small cricks, like smaller then 1/4??
Will they fall through the bottem strainer of that shaker/duster thingy?

I use a snack ziploc bag, i toss the amount of crickets that i'm going to use and add the supplements.

Nope. I don't use it for fruit flies, but it could probably handle hydei size.

I'm telling y'all, it's the shizzle!

Like others have said in this thread, here is my method.
I dust at time of feeding
plastic cup (or any type of cup they cant jump out of) first add your suplement the propper amount. than toss in some crickets, and shake or swirl what ever your preference. The crickets will look white ! Than just feed. Good luck.

I start out with an empty jar, or other larger container.

I then add the feeders first.

I then add a pinch of supplement, then swirl.

Thats usually not enough supplement, so I continue to add some until they are dusted very lightly, with little to no extra in the jar/container.

This way I dont over-dust.

I like using glass mason jars, because they are easy to clean, and have a "lip" around the top, which makes it easier to get only one/a few out at a time.

That's pretty much what I do too snake, except I work in a lab and get to "borrow" cool glassware and weighing spatula's

I don't use a bag, but a tall sided( 8 inches) plastic storage container. It's large enough in diameter that I can shake a tube of crickets in it without them being able to jump out.

Rango has gotten used to the container and knows it CHOW time.

Whe I'm out of town, my wife or grandson has no problem getting a tube of crickets into the container, but REFUSES to touch/pick them up...lol, but she can turn the container on edge and the crickets crawl out onto the branches of my enclosure.

Dusting them is a breeze. I use a salt shaker, and with the container at an angle, all the crickets go to one side...easy to coat them with a couple of shakes.

I have one salt shaker for my CA dust and another for the mineral dust.
