How do you all keep your crickets alive!?

they live longer if you keep them at lower temps i heard, it was 6-7months because i got them last summer and they died 2weeks after x-mas cuz my heater was broke. i lost my crickets, most of my fish and my brown anoles. u could try going to any woodland area away from your house and get a few wild crickets than you could start breeding them look up on youtube how to i have not bn able to keep my pinheads alive cuz a few die u cant seem them and mold just kills them all. :/ are dubia roaches out of the question??? or maybe you could try buying some "clean" night crawlers most people say chams dont like them but if i know mine LOVES them. if yours does like them you could breed your own idk if they are a good staple but most other animals love them so idk why they wouldnt be. if u find a safe place to get bugs try looking for a mantis egg sac i thought one was a butter fly caccoon when i was little dang was my mom mad about that one. lol good luck tho.

I currently have 7 panthers and I have been driving back and forth every other day for crickets just because of the same problem. I've tried everything to keep them (the crickets) alive in quantity but nothing seems to work.

Ok seriously, if it ends up this will be the only cricket we can get Claude better suck it up and eat freaking dubia or become a vegan cuz I dont think so!

I have them and have been breeding them (have a mix of browns and these) and they really are not that bad:rolleyes: I have handled them plenty without getting bit. I have to hand feed all food to George and have never had any problems. Superworms are worse when it comes to bites.

totally agree with you on the supers..those things are like micro pythons, swing around and nail you..you get used to it tho..more annoying than anything..

heres my crix breeding set up..just dumped another 1000 or so in the main bin and have some more females laying..i think the last time i bought crickets was about 6 months ago!:D

My brother just got a batch of crickets in this past week. He told me nearly 80% of the 6k died within 1 day and were all dying on their backs. He sent them off to get tested to see if they are infected with the famous adDNV virus. I wonder how many farms are really affected by it and not being honest about it.

As for the supercrickets being raised. I cant believe the USDA are letting them get permits for them. I have heard nothing but horrible things about them.

I raise superworms on a very large scale. Millions .. I have yet to be bit by one of them. I have left my hand in a container with 5000+ large supers and still couldnt get them to bite me. I must have a stintch on me that they want no part of lol.

as for crickets dying in the first day..i can tell you its because they are overcrowded and need water..i hand mist my crickets..ive only had a few deaths over the span of 6 months..i mist them once a day..makes a huge difference..

I know overcrowding wasnt the issue. they were in 2 50gallon totes. they are about 24"w x 48"l. along with plenty of flats. Along with optimal feed and water. Only thing i can say is i hope some how it was heat in transit. They were shipped overnight and were delivered at 9am in the morning.

had to have been heat\ventillation...that would be the only way, unless they where really sad and suicidal about the trip..lol
