How do I know if my female needs to lay eggs

I have a female, approx. 8 months old. She has really slowed down on eating and seems restless. I am wondering how to tell if she needs to lay eggs. I am going ahead and preparing a bin for her now but would love some help. She is not with a male so they would not be fertile but I worry about her needing to lay and how I will know when she is ready.

Just keep a laying bin available to her at all times. It's often hard to know when they are going to lay without an x-ray. I'm linking a few blogs for you below about females, egg laying and the laying bin.
