Hi How do I Keep my Veiled Chameleon Habitats Humid ??? I got give a young veiled a day a go off one of my mates its was his girlfriends and she did't want him any more :( dont know why tho ??? he looks fine to me but moving on

My viv is mead of wood.......but it has good ventilation that's why I put him in here. I know Screen Terrarium are better but I needed to rush. So he is in a 3ft by 2ft by 2ft wooden viv right now with a 5.0 UV, 3 live plants, 150w bulb wick gets the viv about 95f to 80f and 2 hygrometers.

The pet shop said to put Coconut Fibre in my viv?? My veiled is about 5 inches is it safe ??? I say this because he is small and a bit of a noob when it comes to eating Crickets. what if he eats some ???

I can get the humidity high about 80 but it drops very fast going down to 40 and then slowly drops down more any tips plz. what am I trying to get here 60 ??? 50 ??? plz help.

PS: I know that a 3ft viv is a bit big for a chameleon this size. What can I say his home was a bit rushed. If you have any tip on how to make him fill more safe plz help.

I wouldn't use a substrate except for paper towels. Not really worth it. If he eats it his intestines could get blocked up and he could die from it.

The humidity isn't so important compared to his water intake. He's a veiled and veileds are tough. As long as he gets enough water it's okay. (don't let it get super low though, 40-50% is fine.)

Subtrate...

Definatley would not use subtrate as Pssh mentioned it is not good in the way of bacteria growth and also risk of ingestion... plus there is simply no need for it. Bare bottom cage is best... plus it's super easy to clean! Good luck with your guy... If you want get everything set up and take somepics we love pictures plus its a good way for getting help/advise...

You can raise humidity by using live plants and misting the cage. Live plants in the room itself, and a humidifier in the room help too. So will having a fish tank in the room :)
Anywhere from 40-60% is fine. Provide lots of drinking water too of course. If the humidity of your house generally is very low, dont switch to an all screen cage or you'll have even more difficulty.
