How Can You Tell--Coloring

When members post photos of their young chams, other members are able to tell by their coloration that that chameleon is going to be striking when it matures. I keep photos of my chams' sires.
How can you tell by looking?--sometimes all I see is muddy brown. Is is because the bars are very distinct or the dark areas will eventually turn color? I guess I don't yet have "the eye"....

Robust, healthy animals always end up stunning :) color is a plus.

Look for the colors and undertones. Colors generally come in green, blue, yellow/orange, red. That is just generally the order that they will develop, but if you see a smally juvi with a lot of red early on, in my experience, the odds are they will be very colorful and striking. That's not to say that the animals who do not color up as quickly will not be striking.

I also think a lot of it is just the compliment part. :) no ones going to go, oh look you have an average guy, blah. ;)

Aw, so this whole time all of the compliments I have been getting on my babies have just been people being nice? :( Hahah! Of course we all think our little guys and girls are the best Chams out there. ;)

I didn't mean it like that! :) Like I said, ALL healthy, robust, and well taken care of chameleons grow up stunning.

Could be other reasons for your lizards 'muddy' color, chams show distress this way, maybe post a pic or tell us about your cham and its setup?
In general terms, unless you've purchased an animal from a specific line and seen its parent/s, you just have to wait mate! Is color that important to you? :)

My vet is a herp specialist and owns panthers herself. I had her evaluate my set up and she approves. If anything, I was over supplementing.
My Sambava is descended from El Lobo. I'm eager to see how he develops.

How neat, my girl Sambava is his grand daughter and daughter of Hunter. :D
