Housing together?

Hello everyone. I was wondering if it would be safe to house 2 female veiled chameleons? or 1 female and 1 male, or 2 females and 1 male? lol I maybe getting a male and a female and I already have a female and I am just wanting to make sure what is okay and not okay to do. Thanks. :)

I would not do it.

if you keep a male and female, you are asking for eggs. all the time.

two females can be done, but the cage has to be huge, more than just double what it would be for one cham.

they will fight for space, food, light, cause each other stress, and male and female... well yea.

Two females possibly and the only way to rear male and female together is to have a huge viv! And I mean huge so there kind of free range but to be honest your better of housing separate, so many less problems

IMO i wouldnt put them together at all. i have heard of people keeping 2 females together if they get along and it doesnt stress them out. but more often then not i found that they are stressed out. i tried it for 2 days with sisters that had been separated for 2 months. they get along in the free range but even in a large cage they were not happy what so ever. totally stressed out almost black for both days together.

its said never keep a male and female together because males are always willing to have "sex" where as females are not. also other reasons. but that will stress out your female.

so IMO i would not do it. get them nice separate cages. and if you chose to breed just introduce the male at time of breeding and separate again

I had my two female veileds in a cage together, a large one, for only about 10 minutes and I came back to them trying to kill each other.

Word of advice, chameleons hate each other.... They only like to be around each other to mate and that is it. If you can't afford another cage I would highly recommend just getting one chameleon.

A big cage might work, but then again it might not, no reason to risk it.

Not to mention a male and Female together would create alot of stress on her with all the egg producing and drastically shorten her life span

And before planning to breed you may want to hang out and find out more information on the forum as it seems you are new. Breeding is a big, costly, and stressful responsibility.
