house hold bulbs

yea uva and no on uvb

a house hold bulb can be used for heat for the basking light and "uva"
but uvb must come from a special bulb such as a reptisun 5.0 or an arcadia bulb.

Hi guys..to follow up on initial question. What type of bulb/wattage on a 18x18x36 cage? Also would it be ok to use one of the energy saving ones. Thanks

For what species of chameleon as diffrent species require diffrent basking temps and also will depend on how walm the room is, mine are 25w for panther chams witch gives a basking temp of 86ish give or take but the room is walm as its packed with vivs

Lucky you, I would have gave my right arm to be in Canada at the weekend an Montreal for the fight and if your room is that walm either a 25w or 40w with get you the basking spot you need, it's trial an error untill you get the temp you need

For UVB you could use a reptisun 5.0 18" -24" tube or a reptiGlo 8.0 or a CFL of either brand would work.
for heat, a household 40-60 watt bulb would likely be sufficient

Umm .. household bulbs may give off a little UV A.

But you need UV B and that is not from any house-hold bulb.

UV B IS A *MUST*...
or I am afraid you will end up with a crippled and dying animal in no time. :(

Sad but true.
