Hot Days?

Hi all,

Quick question, I know that for Jackson chameleons, they need a basking spot of about maximum 83-85 degrees but what if the day itself is about 90-95 (especially Summer Days).. what would be the best way to deal with "too much" heat. do you just turn the basking light off and turn the A/C on? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks!

I would have the a/c on low so he doesnt get so cold and get a low watt bulb, like 30 watts. Put it a few inches away and he's set!

fan or ac.
basking light can go off.. or use a very low wattage just to give him light to be under, and use an AC unit and/or fans to cool the room off.

If you don't have AC you might try getting some of those reusable freezer bricks. If it's really hot, put one or two on top of the cage.

What's the temp outside when it is that hot in your house?
If it is cooler outdoors, move them outside when it heats up indoors.
Outdoors you can run mist and use shade in part of the enclosure to help fight off the heat during summer...
Jacksons can take temps safely pretty low- so could be spring temps outside nights might even be OK in your area...

this is what i do, however i set my humidifier on as well so the ac does not dry out the air..i use a 15 watt fish light bulb to still offer a basking site..

with jacksons, try your best to controll the heat, its a killer to them.

I read not to have your cham by a vent or where there is a draft. However, when I come home from work in the afternoon, Tobias really seems to enjoy when I put the ceiling fan on low for about an hour when I feed him. I can see some of the leaves in his cage move a bit... Normal? I would think a nice breeze would feel nice after a long day of doing nothing.
