Hornworm breeding question

Hello, I am attempting to breed hornworms and I have come across one question. After they burrow in the dirt do you need to keep the dirt moist? I have a few that have burrowed and didn't know what I am supposed to do next. I will have a small Cham cage set up w humming bird feeder and plants when they emerge. Any help/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If the soil is not moist enough can that cause problems with wing development? I have some emerging right now, but they all seem to have stunted wings :( I am wondering if it is due to too low of humidity while pupating or something else? Dang it! Any input is greatly appreciated :)

Can these be fed anything eles aside from there toxic host plants and the silkworm chow? I have read grape leafs but I dont have them around here, are there any home made diets out there?

I did not have any success feeding them collard greens. They seemed to slow down and start dying. I have been able to get a couple to pupate in a tub of dirt. I am hoping they make it all the way to the moth stage and hopefully lay some eggs. This weekend I will be setting up a small screen cage with a humming bird feeder and the tub of dirt and plants. We will see in 3-4 weeks if it was a success.
