my 5 month ambilobe chameleon havent ate in days and i finally got him to eat. i dont know if it was a good idea but during his misting and drinking from spray bottle, i gradually put a cricket in his mouth and let him swallow then 5 more crickets after that.... he looked happy and finally pooped recently (its been 5 days )but the end of his poop was orangy.

Also, putting the food in his mouth is a bad idea.

How come? I have heard of many people doing that when they cant get their chameleons to eat during a long hunger strike? Just curious.

As Karma said, the orange means he is dehydrated. Try misting him long and more. You could also add a dripper

There has been people who made it work, but some have choked.

Let's clarify...putting an insect in a cham's mouth and letting it chew and swallow on its own isn't bad. Pushing the insect down its throat is. I've often put a feeder into a cham's mouth to get them eating after some sort of hunger strike.

The urates can start turning orangey if the cham hasn't been eating and not passing anything through their intestine. The urates gradually get compacted and this can change the color because they have been sitting in the intestine a longer time. But yes, unless your cham has been drinking normally it is a classic sign of dehydration. And, FWIW, a dehydrated cham often stops eating too.

I was thinking the same thing as that, Carlton.

Thank you Carlton and Stickytounge.

Yes I gradually feed it and let him swallow on his own. I dont force it down his throat. yea he's been on a Hungary strike so in the mean time ill feed.him.smaller crickets when he has his mouth open . I let him swallow conpletely ,then repeat as many as he can intake before he moves somewhere.

Here's a pic so you can see the color of his stool.......
