Hello everyone,

i recently put a live plant in my Panther Chamelelons cage after having all fake plants. The Hibiscus flowers die within like a day, should i be cutting them off as they die? or leave them in there. Also, the day after i put it in, my panther was sitting on his door for awhile and i dont know if its because he is adjusting to it? or if he doesnt like it? any advice would be great! thanks guys! :)

I think he is just getting used to it, since you did change up his usual settings in the cage. he is just unsure of the new addition, im sure he will be climbing all over it in no time

If you want the plant to continue to flower you will need a 6500k fluorescent lamp above it. They suck at growing indoors.

That is the nature of the beast with the flowers! Hibiscus flowers only bloom for one day and then die. It is not just your plant. I would remove them, after they die because they are just going to rot if you don't. If you don't cut them off, they will fall off on their own anyways. As to why your chameleon moved to the bottom of the cage, I guess only he knows why!

mine last much longer than a single day. however the one in my cage has not bloomed since being put in there, and my free range hibiscus hasnt bloomed pretty much at all now that it is indoors for the winter

in florida the flowers last only a day. They look beautiful and the next day they are on the ground shriveled up!

yea mine does the same thing, the flowers may last 2 days then they die and fall off. then about 2 days later more bloom. I would just check the plants daily and remove any leaves or flowers that look like their dying. my cam was very affraid of the plant at first not hes all over it, the look in his eye is like..back off my plant woman! lol

As Pssh say the Hibiscus doesn't do well indoors. I really like the Pothos it seems to hold the water for a long time and also does quite well inside. The Ficus and Schefflera also do great indoors. The Hibiscus is a favorite of the veileds but needs allot of light so your need to use hibiscus outside or have a couple to rotate from inside to outside for sun. Your plants will need to be washed and rinsed well and replanted before you use them. Use organic soil and buy large river rocks to cover the soil so your cham will not be able to get to the soil. Make sure the rocks are very large so the cham cannot eat the rocks.

I replanted it, but i used the soil it was in from the plant store in my local area. The soil must be covered? i didnt even think about that. Thank you!
