hi all

i`m just in the process of purchasing my first chameleon (yemen) and are excited about the tasks ahead

i have found most of the posts on here informative and i will take a lot of knowledge from them, i do have a few questions about lighting and heating though

can the basking light be turned off at night and the uv used or would a moonlight bulb be better

what colour uv bulb would be best

that will do for now, i dont want to ask too many questions on my first day

feel free to ask away. Don't use a night light turn off heat and uvb lighting at night time! Your chameleon needs around 11 hours of day and 13 hours of night. I don't think uvb bulbs come in color but if you're refering to heat bulb color then you don't need a colored one just use a regular house bulb of appropriate wattage( You probably won't need one over 60 watts).

Welcome!

All lights should be turned off at night. Don't use "moonlight" types. If your room won't get colder then mid 50s you don't need any heat or visible light at night. Chams see full color vision and need a 10-15 degree temp drop at night.

The best and safest UV light is still the ZooMed Reptisun 5.0 linear tube light. Avoid the compact fluorescent types...some damage eyes and vision.

dont worry about heat at night just turn everything off. I would just get a timer that turns the lights on and off automaticatlly so you dont have to worry about it. I just do 8 and 8 for times on and off. I would just order some stuff ofline its way cheaper especially if you get all of it at once. Try LLLreptile or any other site sponsor
