hi! im new!

i have been a forum member for about 16 months & read a lot of threads, with many of you coming down on cham owners for 1 or 2 mistakes in their husbandry. Everyone is way too nice to this guy, giving a little advice here & there, but this guy needs to be blasted! He completely disregarded any advice given about not getting a female until a 2nd cage was produced & now is "taking a chance" with her staying with him! You are signing her death certificate if you dont separate them!

Wow!!!! Im so glad I joined guys! Thanks! Im sure all of you are perfect cham owners. I really don't know if ill continue with this site. Both chams are used to being in groups and are doing well and I posted several times stating id remove her of I felt she was doing poorly. However as of only 2 days, they are doing well. Thanks for putting me "on blast" !
Thumbs up !

Oh no, don't be upset with us! We really do mean to help, the final decision is yours but we want you to know (from people who have been keeping chameleons for years) what we've learned from experience to work or not.

I used to keep 4 panther males together in a room-wide free range. I know chameleons can be kept in groups and do well, but spotting stress-related health issues is really tough, even after a few years of keeping. These guys are really subtle in how they show stress. We just want to give you a heads-up. If she were over a year old then whatever, I might not say much except just make a larger enclosure down the line. But she's a lot younger, so that worries me.

Im new as well. I got a Ambanja Panther Chameleon. His name is pluto. He's about 3 months old. I love him. Still have a couple questions tho. What kind of fruits and veggies work? Carrots? apples? pineapple? also do i need to watch anything in particular in these first few months? poop? eating? I have him on a 12on 12 off lighting pattern with the double in one UV/basking light. I put about 6 crickets a day in. Mist a few times a day and have a dripper. he sleeps like a rock when lights out. :) he's fun to play with. Would you suggest a reptile hammock closer to the light or is the vine good? Sorry so many Q's, im just super stoked.

what kinda of cage is that? i really like that. more stuff would do well tho ^^

you have no reason to get angry at other people. as much as it may upset you the OP is doing better than alot of people who start off. please re-think what you say and understand its best not to force your thoughts on others. if this is done succesfully we will all learn. if not they said they would remove her. end of story.

Not that you guys like to hear this I guess with all the hate towards me but its day 3 and both are doing well, eating and drinking.

Not all of us were blasting you. In fact, only one person actually did. Do not take your anger out on all members when one person said something inconsiderate.
And I am glad your two are doing well, hope it continues. Just keep avery close eye on them both, As Olimpia said, they hide stress and illness very well.

I have no hate toward you or your pets. On the contrary, I am happy to know that both of your chams are doing well, as I'm sure most forum members are. Do you really think we would want your chams to be suffering just to prove a point?

On the other hand, I don't think you understood what I meant about housing them together. Of course they are fine together now. Chams are always fine in groups when they are young. But as the male gets older, he will start harassing the female. And like others have said, stress-related issues are very hard to spot until it's too late. And I know you think the cage has tons of space, but trust me, it is not enough for two chams. It is perfect for one. And as you've already been told, it will be detrimental to your female for her to have babies as young as she inevitably will if you keep them together.

Please know that I am not trying to "blast" you. I am only concerned about the well-being of your pets, as are most other people on this thread. I don't spend my time commenting on people's threads to be a jerk; that would be a waste of time. I mean what I say earnestly and I do it because I care about people, chameleons, and other animals for that matter.

Its a reptibreeze medium, pretty sick. It breathes well and allows him a total 360 climbing area. Im goin today to purchase some bendable vines and a big stick. In regards to not keeping the substrate in the bottom, i read elsewhere that its only a major concern for veiled chams. My ambanja will "supposedly" be alright...whatcha think...

I don't hate. I still want to know if that is plastic mesh?

I am relatively new. I don't always post my questions because I do not want to be attacked and it does happen.
There are very experienced people here that will help you through everything without judgement.

Pick a couple of those people and PM/private message them. Steal the knowledge they willing give and have happy Chams. The few that I have been doing this with have been awesome and I will continue to get the help and advice I need through pms.

Every once in a while I do a post and see the response if not treating me like I am an idiot I respond, if not to my liking attitude wise I abandon the post and PM.

Good luck with your Chams and is it plastic mesh????

Im not maf at everyone. I am ok with some others telling me their opinions. I just was upset with the one guy. I do know I will probably need to build that cage up bigger by at one time. I will continue with this until I feel it is unsafe for them. Thanks for all the positive advice and feedback
Yes its a plastic type mesh.

Really! it is good with the heat? I am asking only because I plan on building my own and that plastic looks a lot easier to work with that all the other mesh and it will never rust!!!

No issues with the plastic. Its not a thin plastic nice and thick. Doesn't get hot even with the small space heater at night.

the biggist problem would be cleaning in my thoughts. not so much them eating the stuff. the fact that you mist alot = not good. (not the misting! the misting IS good but useing substrate makes it all goopy.)

It looks like what I saw in Lowes- they called it chicken fencing.
That is great that there are no problems with the heat. looking like the way to go for mine:D

Thanks!

Burn

what is the top of your cage made of? Screen? If so, he can climb the sides to get to the top and hang from the screen top and get burned that way.

I've noticed my veiled hangning upside down really close to the heat lamp on my cage. The top is the same screen as the sides and for some reason he does like to hang upside down.

I'm going to build a new cage soon... What would be good to put on the top so he dosn't climb on it? Thanks... Don't want Rodney to get burned.

he will climb on it until h is too heavy to do so.
If your lights do nto sit right on the mesh, and the mesh does not get hot, the chances of him getting burned are minimal.

Do it! I've used it in my free ranges before and it's great, you eliminate the risk of torn fingernails as well since the holes are much larger. When I have a yard and can make a large outdoor enclosure I'll be using a fencing like that, it'll let in a lot more sunlight (true as well for out UVB bulbs, they'll be more effective if the screen is larger).

Yea. Stuff works awesome. I just moved the cage inside as temps where getting a bit too cold today! Hey seem way happier!
