Hello everyone. I am new to the site and looking foward to learning alot. My husband and I are new parents to our beautiful female Veiled Chamelion. She 1.5 months old from what we was told. She is very friendly and active. We are currently constructing a nice drip system for her and looking up different recipes for gut loading her baby crickets. I can say this Chameleons tongue aims are very unique.:p

Here is a picture of our little girl Milly. In this picture she has climbed to her basking spot she loves so much. She has plently of crawling vines and branches. Since she came home to us, she has a wonderful appetite and not shy at all.:D

Welcome! She is gorgeous! I'm not sure if I'm getting a correct size reference from the pictures, but to me she looks a bit older than six weeks. Either way, she's lovely!

Welcome to the Chameleon Forums. This is a great place to learn about chameleons. Congrats on Milly. She is a beautiful little lady and looks like a real sweetheart. I have a couple of blogs to help you keep Milly healthy and happy. The first one is about general care with a section and a special link about females. The second one is my egg laying/laying bin blog. Female can and often do lay eggs without a male even being around especially if you over feed them and they get too hot. By the age of 4 months I would recommend providing her with a laying bin at all times. If she needs to lay and doesn't have a place to lay she will become egg bound and die. The last link is to a video by forms member Dez about making a laying bin. Keep us update with plenty of pictures of Milly as she grows. :)

Thanks for the warm Welcomes !!

We purchased Milly from Petsmart. It was the only pet store in our area that sold them. They rarely get them as well. The reptile manager said they get them at 1 to 2 months of age. She told me that she was there for 2 weeks before we purchased her. So I am going by her age that was told. If anyone has a better idea on her age. It would be greatly appreciated to find out.:p

I have attached some pictures I took today of Milly and my own creation of a research book I put together on Veiled Chameleons. It is a compilation of everything I could find. Purchase/Captive Care, habitat setups, lighting, safe plant life,Humidity/misting, drip system,health,diet,cricket/mealworm care,stress,handeling,breeding/egg bind, egg lay bin and it goes on and on. hehe

Doing my best to cover everything I can. She is very dear to me even though she has been with us for a few days !!

Welcome to the forums...you will find a ton of information here to help you with anything you don't have included in your research booklet. As for Milly's age, I've attached a picture of my female veiled, who I also purchased from PetSmart in January 2012. She was 11 weeks in the picture and you'll notice the veil is quite a bit smaller than Milly's, so I would probably put Milly at 4 months old.

Thank you for the reply to Milly's age. If she is around 4 months old. Does that mean I should prep a egg laying bin for her? I have read that females can start laying eggs as early as 4 months even without breeding.

Hello, welcome to the forum :) She probably won't be laying any eggs for a while but it's always better to be safe than sorry. A laying bin is a good idea from about 4 months, I would have guessed she looks around that too.

Welcome to the forum, we are happy to have you and Milly join us. Thanks for the cute pictures of Milly, she is a little cutie. Can you post pictures of her cage? Also when you have time here is our form so you can tell us all about Milly and her world. There might be some tip we can offer but it sounds like you have it under control. But pictures of her cage mean more pictures of Milly and that is always good.

Just copy and paste

I hope this is filled out correctly and the right spot to post it. This is what we have for Milly.

Chameleon Info: Milly

You’re Chameleon – Veiled Chameleon, Female, and Around 4 months old. She has been in our care for 3 days now.

Handling – Milly is not shy at all. She loves to come out to us and play. She normally comes out on her own to us once a day in the afternoon.

Feeding - 6 Small pinhead crickets and 4 mealworms in the morning then her first mist. I will calcium powder her crickets once a week. The powder is w/o D3 because she gets her UVB light. I gut load her crickets the night before her meal. I feed the crickets a mixture of fruits/veggies and Flukers orange cubes.

Supplements - Sticky Tongue Farms Minerall. I will be dusting her crickets on Friday Mornings.

Watering – I mist her cage 2 to 3 times a day for few minutes. We have a drip system that drops onto her favorite plant for her to drink. She drinks well.

Fecal Description – The first part comes out white with a spec of yellow on the end before the darker brown side of her fecal.

History – We purchased her at Petsmart. She came with a 15 day guarantee and 100% guarantee she is parasite free. We were told she was around 2 months old. I was told that her size and age did not really add up. Her estimated age is around 4 months.

Cage Type - Exo Terra Natural Terrarium 45 x 45 x 60 cm / 18” x 18” x 24”. It has full screen top and screen under the double doors. I will be making her an egg laying bin this week to be ready just in case.

Lighting - We have an Reptisun 5.0 to light her cage. Along with her basking light 75watt. Her uvb and basking light is on during the day for around 12 hrs.

Temperature – During the day 80-85. At night it is 70-75F.Her basking spot is 90-94F. We have Zoo Meds Thermo/Humidity set inside her cage.

Humidity - During daytime Humidity is at 70%, at nighttime it is at 50%. I mist her cage 2 to 3 times a day for few minutes. We have a drip system that drops onto her favorite plant for her to drink.

Plants – we have a Camelia plant live. tropical decore with vines wrapped on bend climb vines.

Placement – We altered an old fashion Wine cabinet to fit her cage in. We have her set up in our living room.

Location – Southern Louisiana

I will have pictures coming soon of her cage and setup.

Current Problem - In Good Health:)

Hey it seems like you're doing a great job so far. Just a couple things I wanted to add after reading your care sheet:
Feeding: Meal worms aren't a great staple diet, especially for younger chams. They're just a lot harder to digest because of the hard shell. Silk worms are a great substitute and can be part of a regular diet. As for the amount of crickets, you could probably increase the amount to 10 twice a day (20 in total). I have a male roughly the same age and he is eating up to 30 crickets a day.
Supplementing: You should dust your crickets every day with calcium w/o D3, Calcium W/ D3 twice a month and Vitamin twice a month. Even with a UVB light. A lot of people have different opinions on this matter but that is the supplementing I personally go by and have been told to use by many members on this site.
Temperature: Your average heat during the day and night time is perfectly fine, however the basking spot seems to be a little hot. I have the same exo terra as you and I am using a 50W and the basking temp is 86F, which is what a younger chameleon should be going for. So maybe you can just lower your basking spot a couple inches or change the bulb to a 50w. You don't want your girl catching a nasty burn!

Other then that, it sounds like you're doing a great job!
Keep it up!

PS this information is from what I have accumulated on this very site thanks to other peoples help, and it seems to be living up to the expectation!
