Hey whats goin on everybody. im new to the cameleon world and im loving them every minute i get to see them. Im a newbie to them, but not to the whole reptile community. I used to have 3 leapeard geckos, and two green igunas. Im from north suburbs by Ohare airport near Chicago. Im planing on getting a chameleon soon, just doing my research first. If any of you guys no any good breeders from around Chicago that would be great. Also any tips would be helpful.
Thanks guys!!!!!!!!

Welcome!

Welcome to the group! You have come to the right place! How old are your two iguanas? I have two adult iguanas. Five and six years old. You will be one step ahead of things having kept iguanas. At least you know what MBD is, and how important lighting is!

Do lots of reading on this site. Look at pictures and comments regarding cage set ups too. Also look at all the chameleon types available to figure out what type fits you best. Don't feel you need to be limited to a breeder in your area. Chameleons are being shipped all over the USA with great success. Most of mine came UPS overnight. It's better to get a good quality animal rather than one that just happens to be close by.

Once again, WELCOME :)

Thanks guys. Actually I dont have the iguanas anymore but they were about 2 years old and getting pretty big. They were very tame and i love them, i would just let them roam around the room and then they would go back to the tank by them selves. I gave them away to my brother since I was moving andf all, he loved them and takes good care of them, but i think the chamleon is so much prettier, but maybe a little bit harder to take care of since i work Mon thru Fri 8 to 430. But something could be figured out with some auto mister, ive been reading around for a while. Cant wait to get mine.
Thanks guys.

here are some important advises that i can give for starting on this journey:
1. Research Research Research first be4 purchasing your chameleon.
2. Get the enclosure ready be4 getting your chameleon. In fact, take a pic and post it here and let the experienced member point out some concerns if there are any.
3. B-careful! you think owning 1 chameleon is enough.. but soon you will get the craving to get 2, 3, 4, and sooner or later you suddenly own many many chameleons. they are addicting!

consider yourself warned! :D
o 1 other thing!
Don't get your chameleon from petstore (especially Petco or petsmart.. they are notorious in overcharging the price, housing sick chameleons -due to their poor husbandry- and giving you all the WRONG advise in how to take care of them)

hello i am from the chicago area, sortof. i live about an hour south in tinley park. when i got my cham i didnt do as much reserch as i should of. i got mine from chicago reptile house, and they seemed to be taken care of the best ive seen in person but if you have the money (which should not be skimped on these guys) then you should order one online from a good breeder who are well known. with what i know now i would of ordered mine. dont get me wrong there is nothing wrong with mine (male veiled). most breeders will become your main source of information with chams too, if you dont go on here everyday like most of us. i second that you need to set up your cage first befor getting a cham. make sure it is perfect befor it is shipped or bought. with it being ready when it gets there it will be less stressful becuase you wont be changing things around once he is in his new home. take it slowly. most people rush into it because they are the coolest pets, but take it slow. first read about what one you want to get. that will make some differences with what the cage settings will be. if you think the reserch on chams is fun then you will enjoy having one more. good luck and have fun with it.
