Unfortounetly i made a post yesterday which no-one answered so ill post again and hopefully get a reply

On Thursday(Its now 11.07pm) in Ireland, almost 4 days) I fed Ringo, my 3 year old chameleon crickets for the first time, he ate the first 3 but didnt eat anymore afterthat. His diet was purely locusts and worms before but locusts are getting harder to find so moved him onto crickets.

As i mentioned its now Sunday and he still doesent want any crickets, i offered him mealworms tonight and he took them so hopefully he will take crickets in the morning. I also tried feeding him a banana but he didnt want that either. How can i teach him to eat fruit because wnen i put it it the cage he just stares at at?

Can anyone help me? Thanks

It took a week or two for my cham to eat fruits. We tried with strawberries first...dusting them with calcium and putting them in with the crickets. After a couple of days of that, we tried putting it in her cage with a worm on top, and she ate it that way. A couple of days later we just left strawberry on her hammock and she went over and ate it. She eats strawberries and watermelon and LOVES raspberries!

I believe I've had this convo with you before :) if you want him to eat right stop giving him treats. He won't starve himself but if you keep giving in and offering treats he will not eat anything proper. How old is he? You could probably just not offer food for a couple of days, if he's over the juvinile age, and hopefully he'll start eating for you. Chameleons in captivity are nutritious for going on what is called a hunger strike because they're being picky, like a kid wantin chocolate and refusing to eat vegetables. You need to wait it out and show him who's boss! Lol!

I havent fed him any treats for the past three days until tonight (4 worms) because he wasnt eating and i was worried, but thanks once again AngieL

I usually start them off with slices of apple or pear or stripe of sweet red pepper. Feed it insects and when the mouth is opening and shutting as it eats the insects slip the end of the fruit/veggie in between its teeth.

You can also try chopping up some fruit and veggies and putting them in a dish/lid in the cage.

Like us, chams are all different and have different likes and dislikes. Amy, my female veiled, used to love slivers of apple or carrot and she also loved 'wild rocket' salad leaves too. Tommy, my male, was the exact opposite! He wouldn't even look at anything that wasn't locust, wax worm or silk worm shaped, lol!
