i no that chams have to be at least a foot away from their basking lamp as they can burn themselves but i read somewhere that the closer they can go to the uvb for natural light the better can they burn themselves with the uvb??

coz the thing is iam buliding a wooden viv for it plenty high enough ect with mesh top and loads of venting but iam just wondering where or how am i going to put the lighting if the top is mesh and if the cham carnt go near it, does anyone else have a wooden viv with a cham in who post some photo;s of how therve managed this please or any1 with a solution on where to put my lighting

Howdy,

It all depends on who's UVB source and which model that you are using. If it is a Reptisun 5.0 linear tube then 6"-12" is the distance that works well. There are tubes on the market that will kill your chameleon at that same distance. Most keepers put their UVB source on top of the enclosure with it shining down through the mesh. Their are various risks, other than excess UVB exposure, if you mount the light inside the enclosure. My recommendation is to design the enclosure and layout of the plants and vines such that your chameleon can bask within the recommended 6"-12" diatance.
