ive got a juvenille male veiled chameleon and ive owned him for about a month. hes kept in a screen cage thats about 2x2x3 ft i mist him about 2-4 times daily and feed him gutloaded crickets but rarely have i seen him eat. if i aproch the cage he seems to see me and freeze in his steps. here recently ive noticed a lack of activity and sunken in closed eyes but i have read on here that could be caused by dehydration so i have begun to mist more often. he also has a small brownish black growth comin from near his anus that ive noticed today it almost appears to be dead skin or something. also how often should juvenilles shed cuz for as long as ive had him he has yet to shed.

goin to the pet store in the moring to pick up his food and a new light, any suggestions on a light type?

If the growth is coming from the anus it could be a prolapse...if its coming from outside the anus, I don't knopw what it could be. If its a prolapse you need to take him to a vet ASAP and keep the tissue from drying out (if you are not already too late for that).

You said you are using a 50w uvb bulb ....compacts are not recommended. They can cause eye problems.

You said your basking temperature is at about 90...I keep my veileds' basking area in the low to mid 80's when they are young.

You said that the cage is near a window to allow natural light...light coming through glass or plastic won't provide UVB.

You said you feed him..."crickets and mealworms coated with a vitamin powder, crickets are gut loaded with cricket feed and drink"...I never use mealworms for chameleons...I worry about them causing impactions. Does the vitamin powder or the cricket feed contain preformed vitamin A? Phosphorous? D3? Calcium? Do you not use a phosphorous-free calcium powder?

You said..."i have a running waterfall and i mist 2-5 times daily, dont see him drink"...I don't recommend waterfalls...they are hard to keep germ free.

what type of light do you recommend?

the powder contain vitamins a and d3 as well as calcium and phosphorous.

i treat all water supplies with aqutize and eletrod3ize as well as cleaning the waterfall on a regular basis
